WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA

I saw him play once. He wasn't great, but there were a few flashes of awesome in there. When he gets in space his pace is blistering. He just needs to get a bit bigger so they can't just bully him out of it. Saw him do an amazing run down the wing and nail the pass to HF which led to a goal. Even if he doesn't play next year, I think we'll be keeping him on past his first contract.

thanks for the info

I hope Roos does not trade away pick 2 (unless he does another Dom Tyson) but I would really love CP to be in the red and blue.

I have only seen highlights of him play and brushed over his stats, but he is very good mates with my cousin and he is a very nice kid.

I haven't been following Petracca very closely until today, when I read a few articles and watched a bit of footage.

Not a lot of research admittedly but I already get the feeling we need Petracca like we needed Ollie Wines a couple of years ago.

I bloody hope we get it right this time and I bloody hope the Saints don't try and take him at one, which I think is now a very real possibility.

I think it's a likelihood, but also that it's easy to be seduced by his positives, but he's hardly a sure thing superstar.

Sure thing to be a handy player for a long time though.

It's enough for me to want to draft him, but not enough for me to be too worried about missing out on him.

I still favour trying to work out a deal with Gold Coast to get picks 8 & 13 or whatever they hold in exchange for pick 2 or 3.

I think they'd go for it, and it would help our case enormously.

A deal like that would really be fantastic, I agree.

Petracca is the kind of player we have missed over the last few years (excluding Viney who was always coming to MFC) - formidable body, tough in and under and very competitive so I'd like to see us draft at least one of these guys this decade.

I suspect our chances of securing Petracca are drifting. I think Saints may take him, if they don't, I can see them trading the pick to the Giants if they were keener on McCartin. Consensus now has Saints taking him though.

I think that's true, I share a similar opinion to 'Machsy' on him so not going to slash my wrists if we miss.

Laverde looks interesting but he worries me that he can run himself into trouble on the little I've seen of him. Murdoch tonight again brought this home to me, good pace, big kick but no football brain.

It is interesting.

I spoke to a mate about Petracca the other day, he was massive on CP.

The same guy didn't buy into the Toumpas hype and thought Wines was a safer option - and a beast.

I asked him what is the difference between Toumpas hype Vs Petracca hype.

He just said as an overall athlete, CP is panels ahead of Toumpas, and that CP is dominant in more areas - just not quite as good of a kick.

He seemed to know more about Petracca as a basketballer and mentioned that he is worth taking the risk, and that he was a special athlete.

Whereas he never seen that in Toumpas, yet he went early.

Anyway for what it is worth, I'm more sold on Brayshaw, but that is off very limited viewing this year - of both players.

In saying that, if Petracca is that good, he'll go pick 1 anyway.

I think the current philosophy at the club is overall improvement of the list without fixating on one player being the saviour of the club.

It's why the top pick as well as virtually everyone on the list is on the table.

I hope not Sir Paul. I just feel it would be terrific for us to develop our own star, as much as anything to say that we can do it. We have done reasonably with Tyson but let's not be like Stkilda was when accepting Carlton's old players. I'm not saying avoid trading, but look to do it later in the draft.

Don't worry too much I get the feeling we'll have another early pick next year we can use to draft and develop our own star.

Speaking to Garry Lyon at a function was saying his hoping the dees take Petracca, stated he would love to see him in the red and blue and that his in the same mould as Ollie. Then spoke about pick 3 (Frawley Comp) will be on traded in a "Tyson like deal" Gaz said Roos wants more ready made mids.

We are a sad bunch who have really learned little.

We got sooo excited about drafting Watts.

Wow.. A double header - Scully and Trengove - saviours of the club.

jimmy T slipped to our pick.. A blessing.

hogan is our next Wayne Carey.

I will get excited by a draft pick...any draft pick when they deliver.

What a blessing Dom Tyson is.. We paid a handsome price for you and you gave us ROI from day one.

(Disclaimer - I will give a few of these blokes time as they are young and have time to make their marks - but I refuse to get all excited about any draft picks until they deliver - if they don't deliver in 2 seasons half of demonland will be trashing them in no time)

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
