Round 21

I'm a bit inclined to that way of thinking.

A win by West Coast will set up a great challenge for Melbourne next week over in Perth, won't it?

Be careful what you wish for :)

I would like to know what Simpson has done with the Weagles in the past few weeks. I saw their game at Patterson's Stadium against Richmond and they were terrible. Suddenly they really are looking like a finals side. Incredible.

Cats do it again, Buddy earning his $ (have a look at his 7th goal) and can Gold Coast rejuvenate its season?

Why do the Cats now shite me to tears? They have been lucky this year IMO with umpiring decisions handing them three close matches. Brisbane, Freo and Carlton in the first match.

I maintain they are the worst 16-4 side in the game's history.

Fallen over the line against Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, Bulldogs, GWS, Fremantle and Carlton again. Not even close to Sydney, Fremantle (the first time), Port or the Gold Coast. The only reason they beat Hawthorn is the mental side of things in that match-up. And when they have won convincingly, most of the time it's because their opponent was average on the day, not because they played outstanding football.

Good on them for winning, but deserving of a premiership they are not.

stupid west coast. They let essendon back in the game by letting them kick 5 consecutive goals. They led by as much as 38 points in the 3rd quarter. then they kick 2 behinds in the final term. Wets coast are massive under achievers.

Oh boy... I'm usually optimistic...but next week against west coast is going to be really ugly.

You say we will win against Hawks, but after an alright display by the Eagles you say it's going to get ugly? Lol.

Actaully i believe I said that when the eagles were around 38 points up, just before they lost their momentum. And with regards to the Hawks match, I kind of realised how deluded I was to think that after a couple of days, thus, I mentioned I didn't expect us to win as a result. Get your facts straight mate <3

Saying this for the first time in my life...GO BRISBANE!!

Bye bye finals for the Pies.

hehehe :)

Collingwood have been badly hit by injury tonight.

Before the game, the Pies lost Elliott and Pendlebury. Reid was then subbed out in first 2 - 3 minutes and Cloke went off with an ankle injury before half time.

The "rested" emergency Clinton Young came in for Elliott while Tony Armstrong who played in the VFL at Geelong this afternoon (and ran 14k doing it) was a late inclusion as a sub and because he came in early for the injured Reid, will end up playing virtually 8 quarters for the day.

Given that Elliott was said to be under a bit of an injury cloud anyway, they might have been better of resting two of their emergencies as a precaution. After all, a finals place is at stake.

Gee, Beams now down as well. Talk about club doctors earning their pay.

Collingwood's season looks shot it seems, with Hawthorn in Round 23. GC is finished. So...is Richmond now favourite for 8th? They look likely to beat Adelaide. Each of Adelaide and Richmond play St Kilda, so they'll both have 11 wins. Richmond might make it even if they lose to Sydney, on percentage. Hardly believable, really.

And what about the AFL's flakiest team North Melbourne? If they lose to the Doggies tomorrow then they might have to beat us in the last game with Jesse Hogan playing at FF!

Yep, just as has been the case in the last few years, there's a bunch of teams contesting for that coveted position of making up numbers in the finals and getting spanked by the team who finished fifth.

You have to wonder if it's really worthwhile having an eight team final series when the teams that finish eighth are never really in the contest.

Crows coming back now. I'm a sadistic [censored] and would love to see them run over the top of Richmond.

Complete with an Eddie Betts special from the pocket with 30 seconds to go!

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
