Brent Moloney Retires

Well done Beamer. I believe he gave his all and I enjoyed watching him play.

You really need to take a good hard look at yourself and ask the question whether Demonland is right for you. You may say well if people dont like what you say then dont read, but when your constantly putting poster down then of course we are going to reply.

I think he has asked it, Dazzle, and inevitably he's found Demonland to be wanting so it's up to him to reform us all. And, as BBO says, tiresome.

Very good for the Dees - harshly treated.

Thanks Brent - you will always be remembered especially as a B & F winner.

I loved it when he and Jamar teamed up against the Crows and we smashed them at the G in 2010 (I think).

Nearly every centre bounce it was Jamar down to the Moloney into the f50 and the crows couldn't even stop it when they tried.

One of the best games I have seen from the dees in a long time.

Good luck Beamer.

Victorian England for me Frost!!

Victorian England for me Frost!!

More of a medieval type I would have thought.

Anyone who has played 166 games of AFL football has had a much better than average career. Congratulations to him.

Not in my view, Regardless of what ppl thought of the coach and the turmoil that was engulfing the club you simply couldn't have a player blatantly ignoring coaches instructions AND willfully co-opting others to go with a different plan which is how I understand the situation was.

Notwithstanding gave his all for the club and played 166 games more than me..

This was great, well done to the boys for the podcast. First one I've listened to and will again.

Whatevers people thoughts are on Beamer, it's impossible to argue the fact he genuinely loved the dees and clearly sad to leave. Great insight on the podcast when the original trade was discussed and he chose the dees without blinking it seems.

Ill always have a soft spot for him.

You do realise your quoting an opinion held 3 years ago...

A lot of bridge underwater since then...

Beamer is still playing footy, currently for his old club South Warrnambool in the Hampden League.

Daniel Nicholson is also playing and starring in that league  in his second season with Port Fairy.

I am sure Beamer is still a Demon at heart but if all players had adopted his attitude, then every player would have spat the dummy and left.

Beamer was part of the problem.

For this reason his career at Melbourne shall always be tainted in my eyes

Always had the potential to be a star once he found his right level.  Looks like he might have found it.

I'd like to think that that view is 75% demonland group think, 25% reality

What is your view?

Beamer jumped ship because he was no longer the top dog...

He didn't look at the Big Picture...

I don't think he jumped ship, he was forced to walk the plank!

My view is that Neeld didn't like Alpha male types so they just never got on - Neeld pushed him out the door.

SWYL - I don't imagine Brent would be across the finer points of Buddhist theology, but 'karma is a [censored]' is a pretty big statement from someone who supposedly just merely 'jumped ship'.

Neeld took over a dying club, we all knew that. Changes had to happen.

Beamer didn't like it, so rather than change himself, hecwalked

Neeld was bought in to change the place, remember Mclardy saying "He had carte blanche to do whatever was needed"

that meant Beamer's power base was gone...

After seeing how Neelds tenure played out, I would suggest Beamer instinct was right.

That may be so, but leaving all his team mates to suffer weekly thrashings is not the way i would do it.

Brent had it too easy for too long

Sure. But why would Beamer bring up the notion of 'karma' if not for the belief that Neeld was guilty of some moral wrongdoing? Brent clearly felt that he or others were mistreated.

If you listen to the podcast, he is rather magnanimous toward Neeld but it's easy to infer his primary gripe relates to Neeld's lack of people-management skills - in contrast to Beamer's obvious passion for and efforts to foster a nurturing environment at the club.

You keep saying Neeld took over a dying club, but I think you're conflating club and team.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
