Can someone please keep an eye out for Billy Stretch and Christian Petracca and give us a update later?

As a side note - I live 5 minutes from the Oakleigh Chargers ground and regularly walk my direwolves around the ground as they train. Watching the skills on display from players so young is eye opening.

On a different side note - I walked past the ground 2 weeks ago on a Saturday and there was a scratch match between Vic Metro squad - there were around 200 people watching - I was blown away by the interest as I picked out at least 8 talent scouts and they were obvious to me. I wonder how many others there were ( including managers looking for new clients) that weren't so obvious . It was just a training scratch match.

have watched 2 mins of the vic m vs wa game.

Brayshaw has hit a 40m lace out pass on his left from a center clearance, snapped a goal, then got a free at the centerbounce.

Didnt like what i saw from pickett, was standing side by side with brayshaw at about the 50m arc with a stoppage 20 out from goal, brayshaw ran to get the handpass and kicked the goal, pickett let brayshaw get goal side, trailed him and chased and laid a late tackle. We dont need that type of player, even if its a lapse, its the lapses that cost you in the end. hopefully there is footage of it in brayshaws highlights, really didnt like it from a potential top 10 pick.

Brayshaw, Petracca and Ahern all looked like they will become good AFL midfielders.

Stretch has started pretty well for SA, touted as a second round father son by Kevin Sheehan, who also proclaimed that as a win for MFC.

He also stated he will be a 200 game player for whoever drafts him.

stretch has been pretty solid for a very, very impressive south australian side.

currently holding vic country goalless to halftime.

wow.

Thats unusual in these type of comps where the ball tends to flow a bit

"Sandringham Dragons midfielder Angus Brayshaw stamped his authority on the match with 23 touches (eight contested), five clearances, six inside-50s and one goal, as well as amassing a staggering 690 metres gained."

please and thankyou

Caleb Daniel for SA is a real little (very little) pocket rocket. Tough as nails and a good by foot. Just kicked two very good goals for SA vs VC. 19 possessions, highest on ground so far.

I was on the petracca train but I have changed trains at Richmond and now boarded Brayshaw express

I haven't watched today's games yet but obviously, we could have access to both players if James Frawley abandons ship and the AFL give us the pick immediately after our first selection.

Alternatively, we could do a trade a la the Tyson/Pick 9 trade of last year in true spirit of progress style.

From what I watched in Vic Metro v WA I was suitably unimpressed in the game.

WA looked hopeless. I barely saw one piece of play from them that made me excited about anyone.

Metro have some prospects but they weren't jumping out at me. Peter Wright is obviously huge but didn't get much play forward or even around the ground as a ruck, he didn't need to. Brayshaw looks solid but I wasn't convinced he was top 5 material at all. Average height, nothing special inside or out. That's probably his strength in that he's consistent and doesn't have a lot of negatives in his game, but I didn't see much x factor. Petracca does have some of that x factor but I'm not sure I saw enough of it. I'd like to see more of him against better opposition and think he's a bit more a project as a midfielder than people think after seeing highlights.

Metro had quite a few attacking running outside mid/flanker types who would make handy second or third round picks, they certainly have depth, it's just more sorting out which ones will develop at AFL level.

I got to see a bit of the first quarter having a knockoff drink at the pub. Saw a bit of Billy and looked good. Took a good grab and a goal at one stage

How was Billy Stretchs game?

Was named in the bests again. Second to be precise. Anyone thinking we will get him for anything lower than our second round pick is kidding themselves.

Christ, if he has a blinder in the final round, we may have to give up our first rounder for him (FFS Billy, ever heard of sliding under the radar :) )

Andrew Dunkley's (ex S Swans) son Josh, is a 1st year Gipps Power u/18 player who has played 2 1/2 years of sensational senior footy with the very strong Sale Magpies Football club. Was also named in the 2013 GFNL senior team of the year as a 15 y o. He has played some great footy for Vic Country this year. His father had some issues about when he was delisted by the Swans and would be more than happy for Josh to be drafted to a Vic team in 18 months time. They have a big farm machinery business in Yarram and are widely admired as a freakish sporting family here in Gippsland. Dunkley's daughter is an elite netballer and there is another 14 yo son who is also a very good prospect too. Very high potential here with Josh as he already has a man's physique.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
