Although what we really need is a Malceski/Suckling/Birchall etc and a Isaac Smith/Hannebery/Sidebottom/Brad Hill/Mzungu like machine on the outside.

Someone with the ability to take on the dangerous kick from half back and at least one outside midfielder capable of running all day and making space (besides Matty Jones who has a go) would drastically improve the speed in which we attack.

Bernie Vince or Salem to half back. Trengove back on the wing accumulating and moving at a higher speed. Jesse Hogan at CHF. That's the hope.

The defensive pressure was excellent. Eventually we will learn to attack.

i agree... Our Defencive efforts were awesome, we were controlling most of the play today.... When this team learns how and when to switch between fast ball movement and the defencive shut down... Wow we will be a strong team...

I saw a lot of positives today...we had them on toast, in general play for nearly the whole first half... We looked skill, we were using the ball well and we shut down Collingwoods push to raise the tempo and regain control... That backward type of tempo footy kept us in the game... I couldn't careless about how many goals were scored, we were controlling them... It looked like we were going to over run them aventually...

I thought we lost the control just near the end of the second, when the magpies received a series of favorable decisions from the umpires... Jeez... It looked suss and i think the umpiring of this match should be investigated... Its almost like the umpires regain them control of the match... after that our composure seemed to drop away, we stay with them right up until the last quarter. but just when we would wrestle back control, the umpires would drop in another poor/suss decision...

there are more, though id have to watch the replay to list them all... Put all these poor decisions together and they'll cost any club the match... The last few goals the scored were just junk time goals, when the match had already been decided...

agree ... worse game for 2014 even comparing the eagles game. A Hawthorn or Swans team will smash us if this is our standard. Turnovers and missed goals were junior level kicking

Welcome to the MFC - obviously you are new here so I will give you a brief rundown of what happened the two years before you got here.

You may be surprised but we were pretty bad the last two years. We got thumped every week and were the laughing stock of the AFL. We weren't in any of our games after quarter time and we wondered if we were ever going to win a game. We also had a fair amount of internal problems with our admin and apparently discontent amongst some players.

Then at the end of last year we got a new professional CEO and a pretty decent coach who did not promise miracles - he didnt even promise a whole lot more wins - he promised that the first part of turning the footy club around is being in matches for much longer and a healthier percentage. And this he has delivered. We have seen improvement in our performances but as our pretty good coach says - we are coming from a long way back and we will have our bumps. Most supporters also realise that we are 9 games into this new coach and regime and have been cruelly struck by our big power forward retiring and our young untried gun forward having back problems.

Sorry - just thought since lots of this has escaped you, you must be pretty new to our history

(I apologise for a post that may have a touch of sarcasm in it - but I scratch my head when I see supporters who cannot fathom the depths we have come from and the progress we have made. Yes - I am not happy with 3 goals - bottom line is we butchered the ball into the forward line and we need to do better. We still have a number of young footballers who have had little good education mixed with some middle tier footballer who also haven't had good education. And we still have a number of NQR's who wont be on the list in the future. This is first time I can remember since the early Daniher years that I feel we are not just looking to win games - we are looking to BUILD something. I am under no illusion that will take some time.)

Yesterday wasn't about just 3 goals, it's about building a team ethos... Sure it was ugly and we didn't score but I'll take Sydney in 05 any day of the week...

Reality is the Dees are getting ahead of themselves atm, really need to clean up their ball use and need another big forward... And I'm not upset with yesterday because defence has been the first building block for a lot of good sides in recent history - (Swans, Pies, Cats etc)

Time to move on to the bombers!

I don't think the team is getting ahead itself - just some of the supporter base.

( I would agree with you on the team if they played like it was just going to happen and didn't put in the effort - but I cant really fault the effort - just the execution)

Based on pure numbers you should want the latter.

This doesn't take into consideration that we were clearly robbed of the Vince/Jetta goal, the impact that had on momentum and also how Collingwood got a free when Blair clearly ducked his head in our forward 50

Just had no forwards yesterday. Dawe tried but couldnt break free, Frawley was pushed high up the ground and had most of his kicks on the boundrary line or wing. Our so called strength pre season of a potent fowardline is a skelton of what it was looking like.

Still, huge inroads to what it was last year, just disappointed to lose to those scumbags again. All a learning curve and the curve is on the up.

When was the last time we had almost 70,000 people to the G' with the screaming for the Demons almost ( I reiterate - almost) as loud as it was for the Pies.

I suspect the poor kicking for goal in the last quarter was caused by tired legs. Collingwood's pressure was relentless - similar to what we applied to the Swans a few weeks ago. That pressure meant our players had to run further and harder for longer. By the end of the game, Viney could barely kick the ball.

All in all, we played a top 4 team and stayed with them for most of the game. The number of goals we kicked is irrelevant.

Like Roos said, when we should have gone fast, we didn't; and sometimes when we should have gone slow, we didn't. As for going fast, it helps if you have line-breakers as well.

So, you would prefer us playing aesthetically pleasing footy where the scoreboard reads MFC 63; Opposition 146? We had that for most of the Bailey, Neeld and Daniher-odd-years. I'm glad we are now playing September footy that is hard and tough and exposes your work-ethic and fortitude.

As Goldsack said OTC last night, there actually weren't many stoppages (in the first half), so I'm perplexed about your rugby analogy. Soccer might have been better, as it was low scoring and played between the arcs.
