Becoming my favorite player reminds me a lot of Scott Pendlebury

We don't want him to become one of you favourite players Giro.

you put the jinx on your favs. Sylvia, Moloney.......... Frawley.

Dont nominate favourites for another 10 years at least.

I don't think he has registered entirely with me...

What is he? 20?

He just got 11 clearances, kicked two goals and had 27 disposals against a very good midfield.

WTF?

Same. I was expecting a developing midfielder, not an instant gun.

It's hard to stave off the Syndrome though - I keep thinking: "what's the catch? At what point will this blow up in my face?"

Interesting that in the article on the MFC website, Roos again reiterated that we would not have taken Kelly had we held on to pick 2. I suspect they wanted Salem and took the view that he'd still be there at 9. If that's the case, we got Tyson basically for nothing.

Sounds pretty rosy. Since we'll never know the truth, I choose to believe it :)

Can't remember the name of the function, but soon after the draft was complete, Jason Taylor apparently told a small group of diehards at said function that they rated Salem at 3. My guess is they had Boyd at 1 and Scharenberg at 2.

Hopefully the start of many more masterstroke decisions for drafts to come.

(God knows we need em')

As good as Dom is now and will be, I think Salem will be better.

I wouldn't mind a few years of gathering evidence on this question.

He also did something on Saturday night a few times that showed me he is growing in confidence.

Most of our midfielders who grab the ball in the centre throw it on their boot immediately. A couple of times at least Dom opted to run with the ball and drove it deeper to a contest. A much better outcome than a blind kick in hope ( a blind kick in hope is still better than no clearance at all !)

Anyone else sort of feel like everyone else is in slow motion when Dom has the ball in traffic, he seems to have enough time to sit down and read the paper while he ponders where to send the ball

What are his contract details?

What are his contract details?

he is contracted til the end of 2015 so it's a non issue really.

Hearing reports he will get the rising star nomination.

I didn't think he was eligible. Can anyone confirm?

If he is eligible he would have got it before this surely, he has had some ripper games.

He's not eligible as he's played more than 10 games before this season.

You have to remind yourself he has played just 21 games of footy... Will be an elite player of the comp within 12 months!

The beauty is, he has a great foil in Nathan Jones. Who do you tag? Jones or Tyson? You can't tag both. Very excited by our young brigade, but Tyson just oozes class.

Plus Viney.

When was the last time we had three mids as the first-tagged option??

I love Jack but he is not someone that teams would bother tagging just yet.

He gets the footy from stoppages and off the floor in contests and does a few highlight reel escapes from those situations but if he wants to become the player I know he desperately wants to become - his game is going to have to evolve in a similar way to his Captain.

Jones hurts teams with his link up play and had running to help under pressure defenders and fellow mids.

The start of Viney's career has been promising but he would not be worried about by other teams just yet.

I think there is a lot of Jones in Viney.

Jonesy used to (and still does) win a lot of ball close in and neutralise contests without getting the footy out.

When Viney does get through he often chooses the most attacking option, as Jones did.

As Viney's games sense improves he will start to get the footy going our way and learn to back out of traffic as Jonesy did.

And Dom Tyson is just what the doctor ordered.

Christian Salem and Josh Kelly are a wash

Both will be fantastic players and both will be game breakers

so yes, we got Dom Tyson for free. Amazing

I'm really impressed with Dom's sheer workrate.

He was also one of the few blocking for the tagged Jones that also made his game all the better.

One particular block (MCC members wing in the second quarter I think) allowed N.Jones to receive the tap down and clearance from Jamar which was delivered inside 50.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
