Nathan Jones on SEN

Jones is now into photography.

Roos has said nothin yet about the swans game but jones thinks he would like to get one up on the swans this week. Roos will prob discuss today at the training session.

Said cats and hawks move the ball really well at Mondays game and lower teams don't have the skill ATM and working on the game plan to get to that level.

The "lack of skills" thing is a cop out. IMO it has more to do with confidence. The Cats and Hawks, more so the Cats, trust each other in ways befitting of a battlefield. They trust each other to win a contest, or at least put the team in a position to win the ball.

The lower teams don't do this. I understand that it is in theory a "skill", but saying the lower teams "lack skill" sounds more like an excuse, like as if to say "We're not up to it skill which is why we can't compete". But you ARE up to it, otherwise you wouldn't be playing AFL.

Confidence is an amazing thing. You'd be amazed how much more skilful a player becomes when they have confidence. They hit targets, back up their efforts.

I believe myself that without a robust faith and confidence in your own skills, you can't be successful. The team lost on Sunday, not because it lacked skill. It was because it lacked the confidence to take the game on when it was there for the taking. The Suns also struggled with this. No one is denying the Suns' class.

I think in years gone by you could get away with a few players that couldn't kick but had a number of other strengths that made the side better. Today if you have 1-2 players that can't hit targets you get exposed.

Today if you can't hit a target you shouldn't be in the 22.

You'd also be amazed at how brilliant players look when they play with other great players. Robert Flower regularly starred playing for the Big V because he was in the right spot for the ball to be delivered to him. When he went back and played for Melbourne for much of his career, he was in the right spot...but the ball didn't get there because of the lower level of skill of those he was playing with.

Substitute Nathan Jones for Robert Flower and think of Geelong or Hawthorn as Victoria in the 1980s and you can imagine how much better Jones could be.
