lol..like your "critical feedback" is so in depth.

Maybe you should pass on your "critical feedback" to Roosy. "Not good enough" should cover it.

You haven't even suggested an alternative course of action to elevating him. What would that be, by the way?

When a player gets given a new lease with a rookie elevation, and you go on a numerous page rant about how ordinary that player is before he's even played a game, you should expect to be called on it.

Jetta's been on the list for five years and has played before and in my opinion, he's too slow for AFL.

The next course of action is not to play him against a fleet flooted GCS team.

Thanks for your vigilantism.

I would much rather Jetta than a Terlich, Strauss, Nicholson or Clisby - even Matt Jones. I just think there is a hardness about him which the others lack and we desperately need, particularly with defenders. I also think he is a cut above that lot in speed, endurance and ball skills. I have always thought he was of higher potential than many middle ranking players on our list. Now I guess he has the opportunity to prove it to us. I hope he plays plenty of minutes today and shows everyone how it's done. We could do with a bonus hard running back.

You think Nev Jetta is cut above in speed compared to Nicholson and M. Jones, and tougher than Terlich? Ok then.

For what it's worth it's not the content of your posts in this thread that I object to, it's the timing. We all know Nev's limited, but surely he's just as worthy of some of the benefit of the doubt we've afforded all the other players who have been on our list for the last few years.

Benefit of the doubt? It's rarely given to any players on here, and very very begrudgingly.

I've always liked Nev as a player and for what its worth i am reasonably confident he will become a regular best 22 (cue stupid comments about that showing us where we are at).

On his elevation and selection, both are completely consistent with how Roos goes about things. He has consistently said form in the twos (as he always refers to Casey) is really important and will be rewarded. As Saty has pointed out he ha been in the best at Casey for most of this year and the second half of last season. You play well for long enough you will be selected. Full stop. As someone elese has said he could have gone with the Toump or Clisby but no at the first opportunity he has elevated Nev and put him straight in the side (and i'll bet he strart on the field).

You might well prove to be right that Jetta is not fast enough to keep up with some of the fleet of foot Gold Coasters but you don't always have to negate speed with players of equal speed. Sometimes you can overcome it with hardness at the ball and in the contest and by simply wearing down your faster opponent. It happens often and I've seen Jetta do it a couple of times this year at Casey games. I wasn't at the opening round game but he not only did that but also went into the midfield and up forward later in the game and was instrumental in Casey's win. Can he translate that form into something similar at AFL level where the pace of the game and the pressure is greater?

That's the $64 question!

Your assessment of Jetta is too simplistic.

He may not have great speed but his agility is elite. Agility cannot be underestimated when in congestion. Did you watch the Essendon v Saints game last night? Jetta would have been in his element.

The other thing about Nev is the issue of development. Most would acknowledge development has been pizz poor during his time at the club. Roos, Stone et all will have improved that.

I look at a player like Cheney. Despite a great work ethic he couldn't crack a regular senior game at the dees. Few would have been concerned when he left and no doubt he copped much the same bagging as Jets does. Goes to the Hawks, spends a few seasons developing in the 2's, learns the Hawk's system, develops and improves as a player and now has played well in every game this season with the reigning premiers. Go figure.

The other lesson Cheney provides is that in modern footy players are given a role and good coaches play players in positions that suit their skill set and negate weakness (such as lack of pace). Roos will give Jetts a role and judge him on his ability to play. I will be intrigues as to where he plays him as that will give us an insight into how his lack of pace is covered.

I think he's tougher than Terlich and comparable for speed with M Jones. But Nicholson would beat him in a leg race.

Have to disagree with that. Jones is very quick, Jetta has always seemed to lack pace. Agility isn't bad, but over 10,20,30 metres he's quite average

Hmm, I always feel like Jones is trying to run in a block of cement. Kinda reminds me of Trengove's agility over the last two and a bit seasons. But, maybe it's an awareness thing with Jones?

Could be, doubles back into trouble sometimes, but his straight-line pace is above average IMO. Can chase pretty well

No, I didn't watch the footy last night.

Let's agree to disagree.

Jumbo R, don't usually read your posts, but was intrigued by the number of quotes, I think what BB was saying is we have got you, you have a new target to bag now Nev is elevated, you don't like many players do you, you go to the game to sate your masochistic tendencies?

Jumbo clearly has a problem with Jetta. Who are these other players he doesn't like? The white knight stuff is great Saty, but people can have different opinions from you too.

Sorry?

I don't understand what you're talking about...

Not all players on the list are up to AFL standard.

Don't respond to personal abuse - please look elsewhere.

Thanks.

that'd be right, & Nev has it all over MJones & Terlich in decisions & disposal. & head & shoulders over Nicho Re decisions & skills. Nicho is clearly the best runner of the 4 with ball in hand; problems start from then on with him. & in winning contested footy.

I'm sorry, but I cannot see how Jetta got selected for today's game, and I certainly have no idea how he evaded the red vest.

I'm a fan, but he was our worst today and IMO should go straight back to Casey.

He was far from our worst. Defensive efforts were fine and his effiency would of been up. He's just short of a gallop at AFL level.

Who was worse?

He gave us almost literally nothing. His 'defensive efforts' were what, exactly (he laid 0 tackles)?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
