Forest Demon 4,681 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Jack Trengove needs to find something fast, his speed is a concern, but he is no slower than Sam Mitchell, needs to work on becoming that type of player although i doubt he will ever be in that league. Sam Mitchell has great lateral movement, one of the best in the league. And coupled with a great footy brain make him a great player. Unfortunately Jack just looks like a plodder. Not sure where it all went wrong to be honest.
Guest Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 True, and being overlooked/ignored/dismissed too much. The replacements aren't at a good enough level, though. True, they are not superstars, but the difference is not only their ability, it's the structural benefit too. Dawes and Hogan provide the bail-out kick option into our forward line, and although Dawes may not clunk many, he's at least going to bring it to ground and create a contest. Fitz and Pederson just get out-marked too easily.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Something's wrong when a 22 year old player has been on the decline for the better part of three years boom tish !!! Its got me bewildered.
chook fowler 19,770 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Like the tone of Roos press conference. Looks like things are going to get a whole tougher at training and the selection table
Maldonboy38 6,435 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 At least one thing is emerging clearly. Roos is beginning to see the players who won't help us move out of these doldrums. Pederson, Bail (sad, really, because I am a fan) Fitzy Spencer (but keep him for now for his aggression and doggedness) And some players are emerging with huge question marks: Grimes. Watts Trengove M Jones. Michie (might be a bit early but he looks limited) Byrnes Apart from obvious inclusions like Galrand, Viney, Hogan etc... we also have to play Salem, Hunt, Harmes and see what they have.
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 boom tish !!! Its got me bewildered. Opposition teams can just kick to his opponent and know they will burn him off in space, he needs to be used as an inside mid or a forward and nothing else, which is a shame because during his first year i thought he would be an absolute superstar

But then again, that's been the case with so many of our players. I just can't remember him being so bloody slow, which is what has me confused

They are the depth players but they are well into their careers now and aren't going anywhere in their development.

What 18,810 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Hoping this loss is a blessing in disguise Roos and co now see whos gonna play hard for the jumper and who is dead weight Love the look of JKH, and Dom Tyson looks like a superstar in the making We will be a 10 goal better side by the half way point of the season
Toorak 108 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Watts is not suited to playing a body contact sport. He frustrates the hell out me. He is so soft and continually gets bullyed off the ball.
DeeZee 7,496 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 He is not a bad Mark and kick, maybe reinvent Trenners as a forward? Keep Dunn there, hope Gawn gets in soon and add Blease for some speed.
Deemotivated 550 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Do we tell Watts the opposition just banged his mum to get him to fire up?

DemonOX 8,857 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Is there any point being negative? It's the same every week unfortunately. We all know where we stand. Can't wait Until we get some forwards to straighten us up. Looks like another yr of watching the good teams play and wishing it was Melbourne. It's very tiring being a Melbourne supporter.
The Song Formerly Known As 6,479 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Do we tell Watts the opposition just banged his mum to get him to fire up? i'm sure they tell him that enough.

There was a moment where he and Priddis were wrestling for the ball, despite being bigger Watts was completely out-muscled and had no hunger to get the ball at all.

Little Richard 6,265 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 In terms of players today... Nathan Jones is an absolute warrior and definitely the most underrated and under appreciated player in the league. Cross was great, Vince and Terlich solid but Tyson wasn't as impressive for me as most seem to think. He finds the ball easily but was pretty fumbly today and his disposal was questionable at times. Having said that, he'll be a great player for us. Jack Trengove is summarised by the word 'plodder' and I don't know if he'll ever be more than that. His pace is frustrating and sometimes the way he goes about it makes me question his urgency. Watts' career will be a rollercoaster of up and down games, excellent one week and bloody frustrating the next week. Last week hurt more for me, probably because it was a game we really lost ourselves but I'm actually impressed with how quickly we've turned around our possession count and statistically, we were pretty even with them today... except on turnovers and probably efficiency. Anyway, we have to win next week.
Earl Hood 6,167 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Something's wrong when a 22 year old player has been on the decline for the better part of three years Does anyone know Trengove's draft camp stats? What was his 20m sprint time? That is the measure that often counts, its about acceleration and the first few steps, so often important in footy. I am thinking we looked at his beep test and how well he went over 100 metres and even then looked at how nice he was as compared to a couple of feral types in the mix.
Thehardtackler 785 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 It was at least refreshing to see Dunn genuinely upset at his post match chat with Burgs. I think that we need more of that kind of feeling to motivate some of the long time passengers to shape up or ship out. Players need to be setting realistic personal targets for their own performance not just to be working solely to Roos game plan.

I don't care about 20 metres, it's about the first five metres.
