Practice Match - Melbourne v Hawthorn @ Casey Fields

Not what we needed after the [censored] news on Thursday. Can't see this doing much for team morale.

Time for a sack Paul roos thread?

Is Viney playing?

Great idea to choose Hawks as an opponent...

Huh? playing Hawthorn was not our choice. But even if it was, it is not a bad idea.

Roos has said an indicator of improvement will be how we respond to a run on like Hawthorn has just had,

Over to you boys.......

Just what we didn't need heading into the season proper, a good showing by the 'Aints, and a shellacking for us.

Wish the preseason had finished after last week's games

Great idea to choose Hawks as an opponent...

I think it is actually. No better way to sit down and watch video of where we went wrong against easily the best team in the comp who are pretty much at full strength today. Great learning experience with the new game plan for me.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how we respond

62 - 15 at half time

Gives us more to prove going into round 1. But yes, this will definitely be a reality check.

Saints....10.5.65 PtA......9.1.55

half Time

At least this is against the reigning premiers - if we were being smashed by Brisbane then I'd truly be worried, but the Hawks are red hot at the minute, so this is no surprise.

Now let me state right from the outset, I believe the Spencer experiment should have been terminated years ago and I have stated that very clearly to the last 2 Coaches.

Just interested in how the big Spud is going today.

i'm sure they would have both loved hearing from you, with all of your credentials and vast coaching experience.

Or conversely have all the confidence and momentum gained wiped away in one arvo.

I think both clubs organised to play each other, not the afl.

I might be on my own but I would've preferred to play a bottom 6 team.

Now well find out our truths

Perhaps they should have, as I'm FAR more successful in my vocation than either of those 2 failures. Whatsmore let's not even speak about the Recruiting Manager that brought him to the Club.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
