Demons season opener v Saints

Featured Replies

I have been told by a Saints supporter who attends trainings and stuff that Gilbert is a long show and Fisher is very underdone and without our big gun forwards he doubts they will risk him,

massive hole in a side isn't it, Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Wellar, Stevens, Goddard, that's a very good AFL midfield not playing

Hogan, Dawes, Clark, Garland, Viney, Jamar

Very much a line ball in outs.

Gotta stay positive

I'll be ordering in a nice woodfired pizza, and ripping open a couple of sparkling ales, all in the comfort of my living room here in Sydney... at least this year I only have to wait until the 6th April before myself and my son can see them play at Spotless Stadium (Homebush) - free tickets already confirmed by MFC, so lets hope they were worth the money.

Ill be at the SCG watching the baseball getting heckled by my mates everytime i check my phone for the scores..

There is a difference Weedster only one of those ( Garland ) was a regular contributor last year.

I think if you look at the Saint losses they are all guys that have played big numbers in recent years and are among their better players.

If we cannot beat this Saints side then things will be very glum.

I've only ever attended a baseball game once... Fukuoka Daiei Hawks (now Softbank Hawks) at Fukuoka Dome (Kyushu) and was so bored I retired to the bar and drunk myself stupid (ok, I admit I had a head start of the stupid part).

I had a similar experience in Chicago hardtack.

However I think it is like cricket I think you have to be born to it.

I can see why people love it but not me.

Not in WA this year McQ? We had something like 7 years of that prior to last year - and when they finally got a game at Skoda, they screwed up the mailing of the member tickets (that is, they didn't get sent).

Round 22 against Meth Coast from memory

Gee, I need to study the fixture more closely. Round 22 it is.

Have a sickening feeling it'll either be a frustrating close loss or a definitive victory.

Ah the joys of being a Melbourne supporter.

both are preferable to an absolute schellacking, don't rule it out

After the last two years C and B I don't think dees supporters rule anything except big wins out.

You wouldn't know what to do with it OD :)

But I would like to find out.

On the white board in the latest episode of "Roos view" Roosy has Watts at HFF and Bail in the FP..

just sayin

In the outer with us?

How many of you effers are going? Crowd estimate please?

BTW Me and Stuie will be sitting together. You'll recognise us - there will be lots of arse patting and joking around. I will want to buy the beers but Stuie wont let me.

Will be there BBO with a crowd of Melbourne and StKilda mates. Will commence my light hearted 'Milne is a vicious unrepenting rapist' banter 10 minutes prior to the game.

No need for the light hearted RTG. You might as well enjoy yourself!

I will, of course, be squeezing Kim Duthie into any conversation.

Most of the Gat are backing the Saints so I am taking even money bets.

Yep im going. I must admit I will be a bit nervous in what will unfold. Last year r1 we all rocked up expecting to win because well we thought we were playing an easy team with a new coach who were a basket case. 2 hours later how wrong we were.

The thing is we are in a no win situation with the media. If we win then journos will just name all the saints players that were missing and if we lose it will be the same old melbourne again.

It would just be great to have a win r1 and see the boys walk off happy.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
