LUNA PARK FAMILY DAY - Sunday, 16 February, 2014

Nup, definitely Melbourne.

But if you're a bit slow on the uptake you may have missed that I was talking about years ago.

Years ago............got it. They're alot more efficient these days.

Mitch Clark tweeted this "Great to have so many new members sign up over the weekend. If you haven't signed up yet get on board for 2014. #myheartbeatstrue"....and the membership seems to have jumped by a 1000 ot 2 so must have been a good day at the Family Day and after Friday

Honestly I've been a slack [censored]. But I'm so stoked that he is now a proud demon supporter.

On a side note congratulations on the birth of your new child.

Was there any talk yesterday about the new sponsor that PJ mentioned at the AGM. From memory it was a substantial sponsor that should be finalized this month.

I went and got there just before 10. I wondered around for a bit and tried to stay dry. Couldn't get into the white castle thingy because they had closed it off because the players were going to speak shortly. My Carlton supporting nephew came with us and could only get on 1 ride because of the queues. I managed to get some signatures on the posters you could get. Got Jonsey who is just the nicest guy and Roosy who was by the stage when the players were introduced and he was still signing stuff so he stayed to the end.

Got Crossy and Vince who were in a marquee. Surprisingly the line wasnt to long. The Melbourne woman told them they had to leave the tent to go to the castle thing as they were all being introduced soon. Bernie said well can you tell that to the people in the line so we dont look rude when we walk off.

All the boys seemed in a great mood and I think winning friday night had helped memberships with the momentum still going.

We do it to different clubs it seems when the coach speaks. Ive noticed at other family days the coach speaks after the players are introduced. We interview the coach separately. A lot of people would have missed out hearing from Roos.

The most interesting thing he said was he was surprised by how many people have been at training watching and at the intra club game. He said there would have been more people there than at training when sydney made the 2005 GF.

I didnt see PJ. I would have thanked him as well. Robbo is a good MC but geez he loves the sound of his own voice.

But it was a good day.

Speaking of kids, the MFC got a new member today, my latest grandson who I registered as a baby Demon (he's seven month old).

In going through my membership package to find a form to register him, I found the brochure the club sent to members with their season's tickets and right there in the middle of the box "Play a Role - Demon Heartland" is a picture of my oldest grandson wearing his Demons guernsey and pumping his fist. The photo was taken before the Gold Coast Suns game early last season. It's safe to day he'll have more opportunities to enjoy the Dees in 2014 than last year.

Just received a phone call from MFC telling me that I won 2nd prize at the family day. A 2014 signed jumper, which I should receive mid march. So freaking stoked

U lucky barstard!!

I'll start the bidding at $500

What, you are selling it?

Never say never but I think I'll hold onto it. Only problem is that I have no where to hang it. Plus I have no idea what they would be worth. Any idea?

Unlike the last few years, hopefully it is worth more at the end of the season.

Depends on whether it is the first 'team signed jumper' of the new and glorious era. That could make it pretty valuable in a few years time.

Appreciating asset, hold on to it for now. ;)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
