Folks,

Was hoping some of our learned and travelled brethren my be able to offer any hints, tips, restaurant, event ideas for a little trip (honeymoon) the wife and I are taking in April.

We are off the Paris for 4 nights, 6 nights in Aix-en-Provence, 4 nights in Lauterbrunnen (Swiss Alps near Interlarken), 1 night Venice, 2 nights in Trieste near the Slovak border, 7 nights in Sicily and 2 nights in Rome to finish off.

If anyone has any little villages, restaurants (especially in Paris and Rome), wineries, any adventures of note around those cities or places would love to hear them. I have stayed in Provence for 10 nights a few years ago so am keen to get to some villages, wineries, quality restaurants around there like Bonniuex, Lourmarin, Ansouis, Cucuron.

Ht will have no time. We also wanted to head to Bruges along with some of the Slovenia, Croatia coasts but we don’t want to be constantly rushing around on our honeymoon. The one thing I really wanted to do but had to cross off was the Northern Lights. I will do that before I die but not this trip unfortunately.

There is a lovely restaurant in Paris called Le Grand Colbert 4, Rue Vivienne Paris it is near the Bource and there is a Metro that takes you there. If you like Cakes try Angelina's 226, Rue de Rivoli, another little Bistro, Paris London in Rue Tronchet is very friendly and good food for Lunch. Laduree is another, there is one on the Champs Elysees and another on the Place de la Madeleine. Also try Les Deux Magots, Place Saint Germaine Des Pres lovely restaurant with a great history. Keep away from the restaurants on the Champs Elysees. Near the Eifel Tower there is a district known as Rue Cler and there are some good Bistros there, remember the closer to the Eifel Tower the worse the food so Rue Cler is just that little bit away.

If you get the chance in Switzerland try to get up to the Schithorn you get there by Gondola from Murren, there is a restaurant there, the food is ordinary but the view is great. You can also go to the Jungfrau and take the train to the top of the mountain, it goes through the mountain to a station where you get unbelievable views. Try to make it to Zermatt which is at the base of the Matterhorn and you can get a Gondola up to the Klein Matterhorn, there is food there but not very good. There is also a train that takes you up to the top of the Gornergrat from Zermatt, not cheap but worth the trip. Zermatt is one of my favourite places on Earth it is just a lovely village with no cars except electric ones.

We found a great restaurant in Rome and if I can find the card I'll get back to you with the name. I've never been able to find a good restaurant in Venice but I'm sure there must be some.

Thanks Robbie!!! Appreciate it, especially the Swiss side of things as I don't have any family or friends who have been that way. Not sure if there will be snow mid April but if yes going to try to get at least half a day on the slopes.

You'll find snow there up a bit higher there will be plenty.

Sorry Mate never been to those parts but have fun and take lots of happy snaps.

I can recommend that Samsung Galaxy Camera as its is also a small Tablet. Which can be handy and saves you carry to much stuff. It also takes awesome photos in low light.

For a honeymoon this will know your socks off - Le Chalet Zannier (France), food and hotel in the Alps, used to be known as my fathers farm, la ferme de mon pere), some parts of Florence out side of the main tourist drags also have food to die for, (still remember this walnut truffle ravioli). If your going near Rome let me know, two brilliant restaurants in Trastevere, Botticella, in vicolo dei leopardi and Taverna Trilussa, Via del Politeama,

I found it harder to do wineries in Europe, for time/effort trade off we took to researching good wine bars that did regional collections and doing it that way. Also Lisbon has fantastic food and is much more reasonable than most parts of Europe price wise but still top shelf for food/wine. As much as we love italy (I've been five/six times) Lisbon stands up against some of the best Italy has to offer food/wine wise - also most of the wait staff are really friendly folk from Brasil. I could go on for hours and probably sound like I'm skiting but food is a really big hobby of mine and with the job and scandihooligan missus get to travel allot there.

I'm not about the look of a place as much as the food, and working for the UN means i have mates that call these places home and give me the good tips.

The Restaurant in Rome was Taverna Antonina, Via della Colonna Antonina, 48. 00186 Rome, Italy +39 06 678 3717

We ate there 3 nights in a row the food was excellent.

It's off Via del Corso near the Piazza Colonna

these were the rome options - Trastevere is the cross of/between stkilda/fitzroy/carlton for Melbourne

I am doing 3 weeks in France at the end of the year and spending Xmas in Paris so thanks for the excellent suggestions and I may pick your brains a little more closer to the time if thats ok.

No problems we usually stay in Paris so I can't tell you much about the outlying areas.

One place worth a visit is Monet's garden at Giverny another is Versailles but it's so busy there you have to wonder, they do have a great market on Saturdays.
