Reading the topic titled 'I got married the day ......' Reminded me of those dark days in the 1970's and most of the 1980's. I used to take my little son to most home games at the G, as I recall, he would spend most of the time playing with his toy cars on the mostly empty bench seats or gathering empty soft drink cans in the close vicinity. At the end of the game he would ask "how did the demons go dad?" And I would reply "they did well mate". I knew that was learning how to count numbers when the same question was asked by him after a particular game when we got done. His reply to my "they did we'll mate" was "dad, then why does the other team have more numbers next to their name on the scoreboard than the demons?"

Sad but very true ... Anyone have similar stories?

Phil Carmen was playing and was one of the first to wear boots that weren't basic black. His were white.

At some stage "Fabulous Phil" got the ball and I yelled in my pre-pubescent voice "you're a poof Carmen" (it was a different era) and then my world shook dramatically as the little old Collingwood supporter seated behind hit me with her handbag. To this day I still reckon it had a brick in it.

It's time I admited it...I didn't have the courage to go to Victoria Park.

But I used to go to Morrabbin and I remember one game in the mud where we were beaten and Greg Parke took an unheard of 16 marks in the wet. It was in the days before "uncontested footy", so most of those 16 would be counted today as "contested marks".

I remember being a kid at Victoria park when we beat them by 9 points. 1991 IIRC, was waving my flag at the end and was abused. I would have been 8 I reckon. They've always been a charming bunch.

Dad used to take me to see the Dees and also Oakleigh when they were in the VFA when i was a youngster.The only places he refused to take me was Victoria Park, Dandenong and Port Melbourne. I was annoyed at the time but completely get it now.
