VFL Port Melbourne has signed James Magner for 2014. Magner will be a good asset for Port.

I suspect when Port Vs Casey he will be flat out to prove a point. It should be a good challenge for Caseys (MFC) mids to shut him down.

And what point will he want to prove - that he's a good VFL player and that is all?

Did that enough last year - didn't need to change VFL clubs to prove it again.

I heard him interviewed on SEN last week.

Came over well to me.

No spray for the MFC etc.

God so much talk about who was at fault, but the plain fact is Magner wasn't good enough. The BNF told that story, he was beaten by a 17 year old who played 15 games; only in the forward line.

Going and watching James told much more than the stat line, he had no defensive run, little offensive output, rarely hit the scoreboard and too regularly fell to his hands and knees.

Great battler, but I don't think he can feel too hard done by. It's not embarrassing to just be not good enough.

In a lot of ways it's unfortunate he's ended up playing for so many VFL clubs when with luck he could've been a champion VFL player at one of the clubs. But Sandy was definitely a step up from Frankston and then Casey was for Melbourne and his shot at AFL and Port makes sense as the club who could possibly offer him the most cash as well as opportunity as a stand alone club for him to play to his strengths. It's the lot of the VFL footballer on the verge of AFL these days.

In some ways it would be nice to merge VFL stand alone clubs with the TAC clubs similar to how the SANFL and WAFL work and then give all players a home base and then let the AFL clubs and reserves fend for themselves.

I'm recalling an article from last year or the year before about him traveling into AAMI Park earlier than anyone else to beat traffic.

He very possibly could have moved since then.

The mature-age AFL recruit, who grew up in Hampton Park and Beaconsfield and now lives in Berwick.

He may have moved, but its not important. Good to see him able to have a chance elsewhere, committed and dedicated in his quest to be an AFL footballer. In the end not considered good enough. He'll be another Valenti type,for Port.

Yep, they look very alike, no doubt. The eyebrows in the photo are what's convinced me that it is Sellar, but I do acknowledge that they look similar enough for it to be hard to tell.
