The guys been getting mentioned a bit around here, mainly by me I know... So I thought I'd start a thread for him.

http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/player-profile/shane-savage

Turns 23 in the new year, is a qucik and aggresive forward/midfielder who I reckon could add a bit to our team, in fact be our main small forward! Played 15 games this year for a total of 56 and has kicked 37 goals but he's never nailed down a fixed spot in Hawthorn's team as he's been contending with the likes of Rioli, Breust, Puopolo, Hill etc and is often playing further up the ground.

Out of the team come finals time and he may be looking for more opportunities elsewhere. I reckon he'd be a perfect fit and automatic best 22 for us and we could possibly get him with a 4th round pick (which will be early to mid 50's) and maybe throwing in a Neville Jetta or Dan Nicholson who could both help add more run to the Hawks who's midfield is starting to age just a tadd.

Wonder what other people's thought on him are?

Averages 14 posses, 4 marks, 3 tackles and a tick under a goal a game.

I can't see Hawthorn letting him go unless they get a huge win. As a club they are scum when it comes to the draft period, they get players for absolute nothing and ask for ridiculous picks in return for their players. Savage adds a lot of depth for the Hawks with injuries and provides them with a valuable substitute. If he were on the trade table, I can't see him going for anything more than a 2nd round which I don't think he is worth.

I mentioned Savage as well a few months back. I reckon he'd be a good addition. Can play at the feet of Clark, Hogan and Dawes, as well as providing an extra midfield rotation. If we can get him with a third or fourth rounder, it's a win.

You do make a point.

Given the shallow draft this year, I'd probably be willing to part with a third round pick for him, but not 2nd.

That's reserved for Zac Jones, or if he's gone, one of Dunstan or Dumont.

My concern with these sorts of guys is, is he the sorta player who looks better than he is because he's in a good team?

I think they are very professional. They get who they want and rarely lose anyone they want to keep. If Buddy goes I don't blame them as it would be similar to our ex player going to GWS.

We should just do it properly and start a thread on every single AFL listed player, then discuss our trade options for each one!

He would add greatly to our side and I hope the Demons make a decent play for him. A very underrated player I reckon. Could be as effective as McGlynn has been at the Swans.

He was superb playing for Box Hill last week and I have no doubt he would be an acquisition at Melbourne and a regular senior player for many years to come.

I reckon he's guaranteed a longer AFL career with us and probably more money. He will probably eventually become a regular in the Hawks team but that's not a certainty.

He should give us a thought and let's face it - Hawthorn owes us. We've given them Kyle Cheney and Cam Bruce in recent years

Agreee with WJ. He's not like some of the other rejects we've picked up in recent times, he's simply struggling to break into the best side in the comp. When he has played 1's he hasn't looked out of place and has played some very good games. He's lightening quick and has pretty good disposal.

In my opinion this is exactly the type of player Ross should and will be targeting.

Kennedy and McGlynn proves sometime they get it wrong. I rate Savage, he is exactly the type of fringe mid we should be targetting.

You would think we would be all over him. We could use about three of him.

Savage is contracted till end 2015. Unless he is unhappy or believes his opportunities are limited I doubt that he would request a trade.

If he and Hawthorn could be convinced to trade we would probably have to pay overs for him.

And could be a premiership player next week......He's going nowhere.....

not if he doesn't get picked again.

Played as the sub last GF also

The kid is 23 and isn't getting a reg spot. Jed Anderson is another fighting for a spot. He is a run and carry player with pace we need.

We will have to pay to get him as he is contracted but I would be happy to put up a second round for him.

Contracted for the next 2 years........Why would Hawthorn even consider letting him go....as you said only 23 years old and a good player and being groomed for the future when their stars begin to retire.......Look elsewhere.....

Don't think so, this is their 2nd GF in a row and they won the flag 5 years ago. Clearly you can't keep everyone on a list. Not sure which Hawk mid you would delist to play Kennedy, even though he is a very good player.

Cr*p!

Still no harm in feeling him out though and getting in his ear and try and convince him to seek the trade.

That contract status does make it difficult though!

what was Travis Tucks contract situation at the time?

Hawthorn are pricks to deal with at trade time.

They'd demand a first round draft pick and a player in return for Savage.

Yet if the shoe was on the other foot and they wanted Frawley, they'd probably think a swap of fourth round draft picks would be fair.

It's my (possibly incorrect) opinion that Hawthorn have quite a number of average players who wouldn't do much in a poor team. This bloke is one of them.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
