Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

A serious change of lifestyle is in order here DF.

the current one cannot be good for your health long term

It would certainly explain the dark rings around his eyes. Definitely needs more sleep.

Two years DF that is ample time to show up any flaws.

Not long enough OD.

I trust nothing that comes from MessyDrugs.

Let the (end) game commence !!

Not before time....

Just looking forward to Hird getting hammered 20kvpmf.jpg

Is this really the end game, or is it just the first in a long drawn out series of appeals?

I liked this comment from a Tracey in the comments section under the Hird Hun story:

Hirdy will be in a much better position once all the facts are suppressed

When James cant surmount this Hirdle he has no hope at any other.

maybe just the beginning of the end hardtack

i can see it playing out for a few years yet

It might even take on the air of one of those noir films or books set in the deep South of the US as once proud Southern families who made their money from slavery incestuously stagnate in their decaying mansions, oblivious to the pathos and tragedy that envelops them.

Or maybe Hird will become like Betty Davis in Whatever happended to Baby Jane.

Have the cricket analogies started yet?

Hird will be heard today.

Still be weeks till a decision is made on what is heard by Hird.

Absurd.

yeah, abshurd

Heard a so called legal expert on the radio at midday.

He said he was fairly confident there will be no decision till after the Christmas / New year period.

This is agony for me it must be ten times worse if you are a Bombers fan.

Yes I know you don't care.

Absurd does seem to explain it fairly well.

Cant wait, it will make the scotch and mince pie taste even better.

Apparently Hird is being represented by a Dennis Denuto who will be using Mabo as a precedent; Denuto was heard to mumble something about "the vibe".

G.O.L.D . . she married? . . do you think she would find me attractive?

I wonder if anyone has told young James that while getting off on a legal technicality can be a wise move if you face jail time, it doesn't do much for you if the only thing at stake is your reputation and you say you are keen to prove your innocence.

G.O.L.D . . she married? . . do you think she would find me attractive?

she seems far to erudite for anyone on demonland, deefrag

In news to hand (and this is actually from the court proceedings transcript available in Real Footy):

At 10:30am: "Peter Hanks QC (aka Dennis Denuto and representing Hird) begins outlining his client's submission.

He cites a case that involved a challenge by a land owner to an order made to the land commissioner."

As I understand it, said land owner was none other than Darryl Kerrigan.

You might get your wish BB - the following from a Melbourne Uni law student who sat thru the previous FC hearing:

Chris Kaias @ChrisKaias

I don't think the Hird camp would have loved how that morning went. Just my observation.

Besanko and White seem particularly unconvinced. But I think it'd be a stretch to say Kenny is sympathetic to the arguments

Music to our collective anti-Hird ears!!

OD, curious as to why it pains you so?

Do I care?. Yeah I do. I care that someone of any club, of any sporting code who has overseen the program he did, denied all responsibility, sunk his mates and shown no remorse could 'escape' personal accountability. Such a person deserves to be punished and banished from sport without his precious reputation in tack.

That it is James Hird and the Bombers just makes it sweeter!

LC it pains me because it is a continuing black mark against Aussie Rules.

The longer it goes on the longer the stain remains on the game.

It also annoys me that we should be talking about "the Game and Players" and not this bunches of cheats who should have got their punishment a year ago and yet it will go on into the 2015 season.

I am just over the whole sorry tale and want it resolved.

Oh, I see...I thought you may have a soft spot for the Bombers or heaven forbid, Hird.

Agree, the sooner its over the better.

Alas, this case is really only a side show.

The real show will be the players action against the evidence ASADA presents against them. That could go on for another two years. The Anti Doping Rule Violation Panel hearing is still to occur. It must take place even without the players. It will review the ASADA notices and evidence and decide if the evidence is adequate to place the players on the Registry. Assuming that happens the next step will be for the AFL to convene an Anti Doping Tribunal where the players will argue against ASADA's evidence for the first time. I would be surprised if the AFL convenes both the Panel and Tribunal before the end of the year. So it's likely the Tribunal hearing won't start before the new year. Not really sure how long the Tribunal hearing will go against 34 players with 1000's of pages of evidence and over 100 pages of evidence per player. I would have thought at least a week if not two. I wouldn't have thought that an AFL tribunal has ever dealt with something as complex as this before. Anyone's guess how long it will take to make a decision after the hearings. It will be interesting to see if there are different results for different players.

Either party can appeal the Tribunal hearing to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. I wouldn't have thought that would happen until mid next year at the earliest and then there would be some delay for the decision. Say possibly Sept next year. The appeal after that is to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. In the Contador case that took over a year. So could be September 2016 and then a delay for the decision. So end of 2016 or even some time into 2017.

Essendon has gone from 34 players to 18 still on it's list after 18 mths. How many will be left by the end of all of that. Maybe none.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
