Senior ESS players with several hard pre seasons under their belts must have been pleasantly surprised in 2012 when not only did they increase their mass but managed to keep it throughout the season (pic: round 14 2012). These players must have known something was "up" yet stayed with the program!

Don't you just love how Hird always said wait for the truth to come out and we will be cleared. Then lo and behold he issues legal proceedings to stop the truth coming out that the AFL/ASADA had collected. And then he appeals saying he would be living a lie if he didn't appeal the judgement. But of course all he is doing is trying to suppress the true facts of the drug cheating. Now we are seeing what the "truth" looks like. It aint pretty Mr Hird and Mr Little.

You've got to feel for the players. They're the one's who'll be banned for 6mths.

Wonder what sanctions the AFL will bring now that drug cheating looks like it will be proven. Given that the last sanctions were only for failures in governance and expressly not for drug cheating.

I don't feel for the players at all. They've had opportunity after opportunity to break away from the club and approach this situation sensibly, but they've dug their heads in the sand along with the corrupt idiots running the EFC.

Don't tell me those players didn't know something was a little bit 'off' about going to an external clinic to have private injections of an unlabelled substance in a secluded room in South Yarra. Don't tell me not one player found this a little suspect. And why, if the players were so ignorant about what was going on, did Zaharakis explicitly refuse to be involved in the program? They all obviously knew what was going on, but have now agreed to play the ignorance card in the hope it lessens their sanctions.

Too bad ASADA have already said the onus is on the players for what gets injected into their bodies, and it's for this exact scenario. Otherwise everyone would just lie and pull out the "but they told me it wasn't bad!" card.

Jack, This will be very bad news for the Essendon players. As I understand it, Asada as it was set up by the Government, Is different to other international doping agencies because it is not perceived as fully independent for Govt. influence. If Asada do not get their act together and impose a proper penalty on the Bombers then it could very well have a seriously detrimental effect on Australian sports men and women competing on the international stage.

But, it's stretching things beyond the limits of elasticity to suggest the purpose in appealing is to wash from Bombers' players, past and present, the stains left by the innuendo, misconceptions and falsities created by ASADA's investigations. No, the purpose of the appeal is to bury, under a thousand tonnes of concrete, any prospect of Hird being forced to answer for his own conduct under the AFL's anti-doping rules.
