Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Sounds like they are just arguing about what documents each side can use right now

Still trying to work out why these idiots are doing this. Regardless of the result - ASADA will continue to investigate one way or another until they have the evidence and then they will reissue the show show cause letters if that's what it takes. I just don't get the point of it - other than wasting everyone's time and pissing off the people who will end up destroying the fabric of the football club (or at least what's left of it!!!). Seems to be an act of printing ones own death warrant by the idiots

I assume their strategy is that the longer they delay the actual penalty, the more players they can move on from the club (trades/delistings/retirements) and therefore lessen the eventual impact of the sanctions.

Unless, of course, they win the main game. And I agree with you if they lose. As lists turnover by about 20-25% per annum, another couple of years of delay will see only about 25% of their players' potentially affected...if they eventually lose.

Every time I watch Essendon I think how much of this is because of juicing?

Can't help but thinking the same, cards

whatever it takes !!!

You just missed it. -"whatever I take"

I love Bomber but I don't think he wants to couch again. We need someone fully committed.

He looks as if he is actually enjoying couching

May become irrelevancy if the club is actually suspended though.

It certainly seems as though its a play for time. The longer it drags on the less impact for some players if banned.

I have watched the opening submissions in their entirety.

IF there was no evidence to come and it ended now, the ASADA lawyers would be preparing their costs bill to be paid by the Applicants and booking the finest restaurant in Melbourne for their celebration dinner.

Of course there is more to come.

I thought the AFL had already sanctioned the club?

Now it's ASADA trying to sanction the individuals involved, the first step of which were the show cause notices?

I get really confused with this issue.

Does an infraction notice means jobe will have to hand back his brownlow?

From my understanding, no, not the infraction notice.

I would think through if he gets put on the registrar of findings or whatever the next step is, that he would have to. Or there would at least be a public outcry for it.

ASADA can whack the club too if shown that 2 or more were naughty....

They can also penalise those 'supporting' the players in their mischief.

Wont be that hard

I have tried to watch this since the adjournment at 12pm but can't seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone tell me where to find it. The url in this thread doesn't work anymore.

Appropriate that Neil Young is representing Essendon - after all he's seen the needle and the damage done

Essendons case seems to be counter productive, not trying to prove innocence, trying to stall for time and hope ASADA have slipped up

I did like the line about "nonsense on stilts" ...

Little made sure that the AFL's sanctions last year were only for bad governance (eg having no records of what the players were given) but expressly were not to do with drug cheating.

The problem is even if this case succeeds ASADA will just issue new notices with the evidence they got without the AFL. Assuming the players can't defend the notices they will be banned. If that happens the AFL is going to be forced to sanction the Club for drug cheating. If it doesnt' it will cause an international uproar and destroy the worldwide credibility of AFL as a sport. Think of what cycling has been going through trying to clean itself up with Armstrong etc and Athletics etc. So I can't see how the AFL could not give them very heavy sanctions for drug cheating.

That settlement should have been set up to say if there are any findings of drug cheating then the sanctions agreed in the settlement cover them as well as bad governance. But as it didn't IMO more sanctions will have to be imposed.

The Age is doing rolling coverage, I guess it's the next best thing to a video feed.

Not sure what the implications of this are:

2:40pm:

The parties are currently arguing about whether a recording should be allowed which ASADA claims is improperly obtained evidence.

2:42pm:

This "secret document" is a recording of an ASADA briefing to players last year at a time when Star said Essendon has "health and mental" fears for its players.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
