I agree with you that Vossy learnt a big lesson over the Fev and recycled player thing but he had just come off a first year where his side made the finals and I think he thought they were still in a premiership window.

Shame Neeld didn't learn from that

Wouldn't sack a coach at this stage for no reason, clearly more to this.

There are rumblings about a bunch of out of contract players not wanting to re-sign: Karnesis, Handley and a couple of others.

Just sayin...

Jnr, it just proves how much Victorian-based AFL news is irrelevant in Queensland. Voss made front page of the Courier Mail today. His "news" made pages 78-79, the Essendrug affair had something on page 78.

People (generally Victorians) think that all things AFL is big news across all states of Australia. Some on here have even suggested we announce sponsors at certain times to get maximum exposure. In Queensland, no one gives a toss what happens to Victorian clubs.

This is a surprise.

Only thought they believed that in the West.

Does anyone else remember the video of Voss' "bravery" outside the venue where he had an "altercation" with another "gentleman"? Voss has always been a media darling, so it didn't get any real publicity at the time.

Some say that list management via a youth policy thru the draft is no good, & then they say that a coach who has a top up policy with mature players, to take advantage of the likes of Black & Brown & Merrett, etc is also no good. & they label any coach (no good) who has no results from 2 - 3 yrs?

... or can this be a perception from a buy it off the shelf mentality?

it takes a lot of hard work to build a powerful list, & especially to setup change, from a bad culture, ontop of the list ... just ask Barass.

the Lions still have good solid values & strong memories of success in their short term memories. a good start to build from.

Watts for Hanley?

I don't know why people bring this up. It's absurd.

For an Irishman, or any foreigner, to come here, it's a difficult transition.

They likely have no family here, they likely have no friends or support base here.

They do not grow up with the dream of playing AFL whereever they can get a game.

The club becomes their family.

Why would a player want to give that up?

If they weren't happy, they'd have gone home already.

How often have Irish players changed clubs?

I can only think of 2. Tommy Walsh went to Sydney at the behest of Tadgh Kenelly, and because of their renowned support network.

Has since done nothing.

Also Colm Begley went to the Saints after leaving the Lions, and promptly pulled the pin.

Irish players already at other clubs are a different kettle of fish, and generally not worth pursuing in my opinion.

Yes but not of coaching.

His results at Brisbane have been poor.

His dumb decision to pay a bomb for Fevola was a disaster and split the Club and hurt the player culture resulting in a number of key players leaving.

A lesser favourite son would have been sacked for that almighty balls up

He screwed up the list he made some whopping mistakes, but has he failed at coaching, specifically development?

Surely he could be spoken to.

His failure to manage his list has cost him his job, specifically the Fevola debacle and his attempt at trying to squeeze out another flag of his ageing stars by supplementing his list with NQRs. He should have begun a rebuild earlier and this cost him....but is he a failure at coaching?

Perhaps he weilded too much power over the construction of his list?

Some young players have developed very nicely under his coaching. Surely it is worth investigating?

I expect that he has learned some lessons in list management in the last few years.

For what it is worth I had lunch with my brother who is down from Brisbane today.

Afer he stopped laughing about the dees I reminded him he has a nut case running the Lions and that shut him up.

But I digress He says that the scuttlebutt is that Voss was sacked because they wanted Roos and he had told the Pres he would never take a position while there was an incumbent in that position.

They were scared he would go to WCE and that Voss might get the Lions into the finals and how would it look to then sack a coach that has you playing finals.

Everyone thinks the Pres is a dick head and he will be gone soon.

My brother believes The new mob including LM will walk in when push comes to shove.

There is even a suggestion LM might be conscripted!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if once Matthew's ticket is elected and Johnson turfed out that Voss will be re-instated as senior coach.

Watch it happen.

How can it without the whole Board resigning?

They passed it unanimously and one of Lethal's ticket moved the sack motion.

I've only seen that Pres twice, & my initial gut feel was, sheesh, a bit of a nerd... didn't inspire confidence at all.

That's a good point that I really don't know the answer to. Can a board member stand down and then soon after be re-elected for the process of a re-appointment to work?

Anyone heard if we have contacted Voss yet?

surely we will at some point, even as a midfield coach

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
