I am one of Lynden Dunn's harshest critics, not for what he does, but for the way he carries on and more so for his on occasion poor efforts in not going when it's his turn. However for those of us that want him out of the side interesting to note that he leads the leagues defenders in % of one on one contests won inside 50, only being beaten 3 times all year.

Credit where its due thats an impressive effort and provides context as to why as frustrating as he is he has been a mainstay all year.

I think part of that is that Dunn takes the 3rd of 4th best forward, leaving the better ones to players with a lot less experience and development.

He's anonymous.

Which might also explain why the actual number of contests is lower than other defenders have been involved in.

Nevertheless, it's a good performance and makes me appreciate him more - but not enough to believe he's part of the longer term solution to our worries.

This was brought up in the preview thread.

I don't think this is a particularly noteworthy stat. Dunn regularly takes the third/fourth forward, often a player shorter than him (e.g. Lindsay Thomas). I'm not that surprised or impressed that he's winning one-on-one contests.

You are not impressed that he kept Thomas goal less in a thrashing last week?

He is not a great player but he is far from our worst and he can tag and kick a football as well.

No, I didn't say that at all. Good on him from doing his job last week.

What I said was that I'm not impressed that he's recording good statistics in one-on-one marking contests. This, IMO, comes from the fact that he takes the third, fourth, sometimes even fifth forward, a forward who is commonly shorter than he is (Thomas is a case in point, 180cm compared to Dunn's 192).

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
