Melbourne has moved on from Roos

Recommended Posts

I'ver been thinking this is part of a charade for some time now but thinking about it logically it can't be. Roos is not intersted in the MFC job (at the moment) as he's mentioned on several occasions, but to think it's all just smoke and mirrors put up until the time is right to announce him as coach is just lunacy.

The clear explanation for this would be Jacksons credibilty being shot to pieces after contacting Willliams and Eades management, only to 'apparently' deflect the spotlight off of Roos until the end of the year?

Imagine if that got out? PJ screwing around a couple prospective coaches and their managers just to appease Roos... I'm sure David Parkin would be dissed right off too if it was found out that the MFC had engaged him just to play a part in a fanciful parade!

Landing Roos now would be a massive task and although it's still remotely possible, I'm absolutely confident that there's been no back alley dealings prior to now. If Jackson is working towards a set of criteria that Roos has set then there's still hope but right now we need to build a bridge and move on.

Exactly what i have been thinking....

I think the Roos Ruse was understood to be smoke and mirrors because it looked to all and sundry like smoke and mirrors, thats the nature of the smokey/reflecting thingy , it obfuscates what it simply was... Someone essentially saying...NO.

Ockham's Razor perhaps

Good to c as reported in the HS Richmond will allow assistant Mark Williams to be interviewed for the Melbourne coaching job during the season.

That's a positive step forward.

Interestingly in the article they say that we have contacted Eade but no appointment has been made which is probably due to coollywobbles not allowing him to be interviewed but I wonder if it means anything. Probably not but u never know.

Since the tigs are allowing Willo to be interviewed do u think there is a chance he would be named as our senior coach before seasons end?

Do u think we will interview Eade if they are happy with what they hear from Willo?

Just curious to c others opinions on it.

well................

This will all depend on the prioritisations PJ and co have laid out regarding this position

It depends on whether Craig is also in the mix

I cant see anyone else beingappointed prior to the end of the final round, thers a certain etiquette we ought to follow and theres no reaosn not to follow this. Surely we've learnt a few things, even if from our nouveaux outsider head honcho.

I expect MAD MONDAY to take on a whole different hue this year :)

Anything could happen but I would think probably not.

Craig is stabilising the place and I don't see Jackson as a person who would hire in haste. Anything could happen between now and Sept/Oct.

In theory yes, but Craig is doing alright, it would mean he could start planning his trade and draft plans and things like that early

This is why I suggested it so that Willo can get in earlier and look over the list for trade and draft etc.

I am only thinking of appointing the new coach with about 2 rounds left or something like that so not saying do it with 5 rounds to go as this would undermine Craig if he is not the chosen one.

It would make sense to do it as early as practicable.

When Mark Neeld was sacked Craig said that he sat down and had a chat with PJ, i have thought that would have been PJ saying look our priority is a premiership coach, obviously he was still in with a shot but i'm sure he made Craig aware that if Roos for example signed tomorrow, he would start ASAP, i think we would be crazy to hire Williams without exploring all of our options however,

DoX...two rounds to go or after last game...no a lot of difference. Might as well wait.

I think it would be a massive mistake to sign up any coach for 5 years. A lot can happen in that time and it can be a hefty payout if it doesn't work.

It doesn't make good business sense when you have competition for the spot.

No coach in particular a Eade or Williams will sign for 2 yrs as our rebuild will need a 5yr plan

They need confidence from the club, coach needs to make decisions based on long term

Really warming to the idea of Choco coaching us, make it happen PJ!

On a side note, i hear a rumour that mark bickley was another who was keen for the job and we wanted to interview, any thoughts on him?

i'd be against any untried coaches as long as choco is around

Roos was never going to start 'ASAP'.

What precedent in the AFL is there for a midseason appointment of a new coach, after the interim coach has been installed, and after the original coach has been sacked?

A new coach needs a Pre Season to get anything accomplished in terms of how a team plays and getting better personnel. They would be voiding their 'fresh start' if they took over in the middle of a horrible season.

I think Jackson asked Craig to be caretaker, gave no promises and little talk of 2014.

Perhaps Roos knew that Stockdale was in the wings and has no interest while he is around?

Thats a very interesting take on it.

I think we just have to go back to the notion its team Tammi. Paul was kinda keen, Queen Tammi vetoed. End of story

Im sure we'll all travel around this roundabout a few more hundred times before this has played out .

Anyone seen a fat lady around ?

Very good point Old, todays story goes to show how off field turmoil needs to become a thing of the past and something all of Roos, Eade, Williams, Craig and other candidates would consider.

Eade and Williams would be at loggerheads with such a leader and Roos would just say no to the offered vacancy and be justified in saying, nothing has changed I am not taking the job for that reason

I believe you need to get permission from the club to interview, and that it can be denied.

Appointments are not made when the Press Release comes out so I don't know how they are going to police that.

Frankly I would wait but with Jackson going on holiday over August-Sept it may not be viable to do so.

To be honest, I don't think interviews will be next week, but we will see.

Not sure when Freo interviewed Ross Lyon last year ?? MUST have been before season's end as he knew before the Saints last roster game... Just saying..

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
