I get where you are coming from but his skills have improved significantly over the years. Given Jack's history of illness and injury and combined with his size you would think there is more improvement to come

And if his banana from the boundary is an example of terrible skills I'll take them every time

at least he can take a mark - something we were having trouble doing in the early - he likes the contest - you don't always have to be a superstar - most teams have good reliable solid players - hopefully that is what Fitzy will become.

I like Fitzpatrick's form and he played well last night, but when Clark is fit, it won't be much of a dilemma.

Terrible skills and decision making? Seemed to me to be very good last night and got in the right position and provided options well.

I've saw him at Casey last year a lot and he has some very good attributes. It always seemed to me he needed to feel comfortable in the seniors before he'd play well and I think he's getting that. I'm not sold but he's on my watch list. What is impressive is the way he's stepped up and continued to improve quickly. It also needs to be remembered he's had (and got) some serious medical history.

He'd be a real bonus if he continues to improve and Ben, in the nicest possible way, with your strike rate lately he's got and excellent chance!

Let's not forget that Jack is only 22. For a big man his development is above where it usually is for a bloke of his size. There is still plenty of upside to come.

Who knows given the competition for forward spots next year Jack may well end up down back. His speed, leap and 200cm, 99kg frame could be an advantage on the last line. Also like that he has a red hot go

If you ask me, he and Lynden Dunn are playing for the same spot, but I'd rather Jack Grimes in there than either one of them. I hear he's coming back soon, so the clock is ticking for the both of them.

Stoppages in your backline are the most important therefore your ruckman goes down there you don't get one of your key defenders to ruck.

Ie. that position you've created is redundant. Clearly these days you need 2 big defenders and preferably 2 guys around the 190cm mark who are capable of playing tall or small. The 4 we've gone for currently are Frawley, McDonald, Garland and Dunn. I expect Grimes or Watts to take over from Dunn. If we are playing a particularly tall team then Pedersen is an option as well otherwise he remains as depth for Frawley and McDonald.

I expect as you said us been stuck with Pedersen means we should aim to develop him as much as possible as a key defender. That means increasing his fitness and mobility - stripping a few kgs for a start. With Garland and McDonald using their flexible mobility to play on mid size guys against the dogs I could very well see Pedersen getting games ahead of Dunn at some time. Pedersen actually has some natural talent for accumulating possessions and running the ball out of the backline. If he could kick reliably he'd certainly be closer to a game. That and not being soft.

He's been clear over taken by Fitzpatrick as a forward/back up ruck. In a lot of ways that's been a good thing. Fitzpatrick has convinced me that he's stepped up from athletic talent who I was very unconvinced about to a prospect who now could certainly make it. It's still a big question mark but that's a good step. His first few AFL games were horrible.
