I wish I was as sure, but he is getting into the contests now. Watching him at training pre season he was very timid when confronted with a contest, this didn't seem to be the case today so I would say he is developing pretty well which is a good sign.

Being his frame, I would be a little anxious too. Confidence builds when your body builds.

how did Jesse Hogan play????

Played an OK game, delivery wasn't great to him. Made contests and brought the ball to the ground. Lead up the ground well also. Finished with just the 1 goal i believe.

Does anyone know why Taggert's playing in the forward line?

Did he have any time in the midfield yesterday?

Initially, I thought they were just trying to get him fit, now I don't get it.

Maybe it's a back management issue?

I really don't think we need another hack defensive forward when our midfield is so tragic

Can anyone enlighten

yes, they need to get his body built properly so keeping him out of the guts for now, but making reasonable fist of playing forward, so we will have a big bodied midfielder who can also play forward and kick goals, sound familiar to someone everybody thinks will leave at the end of the season, what the Club actually developing properly we can't have that the naysayers (hi Rjay) won't like that

thats exactly what I imagined they were doing, easing his body into being a midfielder by rotating thru there for prescribed minutes & learning how to setup/kick goals at the same time as he's learning.

the footy department are finally teaching & developing,,, rather than hit & hoping... there is a structure & a methodology about how they do things which just makes sense.

try telling that to the doomdayers that is what they want but don't see because they don't want to believe it!!

I can't remember ever saying anything about development apart from your comment about Pederson needing some time to develop. If this is the reasoning for Taggert playing forward then that is good, I just hope they leave him in the senior VFL team because he does fall in and out of the game in that position. If you check through my posts over the last year and a bit you will find I am a big supporter of Taggert, good size, good kick and strong mark. When played in the midfield he picks up a lot of ball.

If you watched yesterday's game he is not going through the midfield at all. Just rotates around the forward line.

He is a totally different player, yes he has a good size but that's where the similarity ends. Silvia is an explosive burst player but with no awareness and wastes a lot of ball.

Taggert is a much more composed player with good awareness and he uses the ball well.

And hence the score perhaps. Both good kids, silly not to have them on a park somewhere. Wasted week for both od them and both sides got done. Don't see the sense in that.

Emergency, Both he and Kent did not play.

The way they've been playing the younger kids is giving them a break, my guess is it was Kent's turn.

The Casey Scorpions' promising start to the 2013 is stalling. After winning the first four games of the season in impressive fashion and then coming close to ending Port Melbourne's long undefeated run of home wins, they crashed to earth at Casey Fields on Saturday.

Casey kicked the opening goal of the game against the Box Hill Hawks when Mitch Gent roved a pack and kicked truly, but then conceded two by way of frees in front of goal and, after that, were never allowed back into the game apart from a brief flutter early in the second term when Jake Best kicked truly to reduce the gap to two points.

The breeze that had been nothing more than a mere zephyr at the start of the game had stiffened by the start of the second term and this was to be of great significance for the contest. After Best's goal it was all one way traffic as the Hawks combined brilliantly and moved the ball with pinpoint accuracy as they ripped the Casey defence apart kicking eight unanswered goals in the space of less than twenty minutes to go to a 50 point lead before a Dominic Barry goal stemmed the flow a little.

To compound matters, Casey was extremely wasteful when its turn for the use of the wind came after half time. They kicked 3 goals 8 behinds in the third term, the inaccuracy snuffing out any hope of a major revival. The visitors cantered away in the final quarter to win by 60 points and delivered a crushing blow to Casey's prospects for the season.

With Melbourne's growing injury list and the Demons' policy of holding back two emergencies for their games, the Scorpions were down to just ten Demon listed players plus youngster Jesse Hogan who was quiet and restricted to just a single goal.

Cam Pedersen was a tower of strength all day and Tom Couch worked hard despite a tag while Jake Best and Mitch Gent were the best of the Casey listed players.

The Scorpions face another tough test under lights at Skilled Stadium on Friday night against ladder leaders Geelong who will be smarting after their first loss of the season at the weekend.

How Spencer got in the best is amazing, must have been because of his chase and tackle. He was comprehensively beaten in the ruck.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
