Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Does it matter about a midfield coach, general consensus is that the midfield is no good anyway, shouldn't that read new coach and new midfield?

I think the midfield is more young than no good, Grimes, Jones, Toumpas, Viney, Trengove plus 2-3 more at least at the end of this year in 3-4 years time should be a very capable midfield

For a long time I've also taken it as granted that Grimes and Trengove are talented footballers waiting to blossom. I no longer hold that view. I think what we're seeing from Grimes is as good as its gonna get - an honest tryer with a pretty average boot. As for Trenners, who bloody knows. Right now you wouldn't have him in the VFL side.

Our top 3 picks in the next draft all have to be midfielders, and we need to nail every single one.

I agree with Grimes, but then Kane kornes and joel corey i wouldn't consider to be any more talented so if he turns out to be that sort of player i won't be complaining, i ultimately see him as a classy hard working half back if we develop some of these mids that we either have or are getting

Trenners i still think can be an elite mid for us, i understand why he was made captain but i don't agree with it, i think they should have let the young man find his feet first, has alot of the same attributes as a James hird or Jimmy Bartel type player, wouldn't be the worst half forward either.

I haven't written Trengove off, but right now he is merely a shadow of an AFL player. Is it possible for the speed of the game to have gone past you at age 22?

I'm tired of all these theories thrown around about mysterious injuries and he's simply too important to be playing around with. Relieve him of the captaincy, get him 100% fit, and play him in the magoos for a few weeks to find the footy and remind everyone why he was at one point the second most sought after young talent in the land.

Paul Roos rates him as a future superstar and our most talented player - but what would he know.

Did you actually read my post? I am not writing off him or his talent. I just no longer think it's a given that he will become an elite player, because all the evidence right now is to the contrary.

And with all due respect, Roos has very little interest in us or our list. I doubt he'd be able to name enough Melbourne players to field a side if put on the spot. He named Watts and Trengove when talking about our talent, the two highest profile, highest draft picks.

I work within the fitness industry and more specifically with people with medical conditions and injuries and to me it screams of OP, if that's the case he needs to be given time to get on top of that and he could still become the player we hope he could be.

I agree with Paul Roos in that he is probably our most talented player, and he is still very young so if we can get it right now it could be very exciting

Surely if it was something as serious as OP, it would be dealt with. What do we gain from leaving him to play, and copping the pasting he gets every week from fans and the media?

I have no idea, but you don't lose pace for no reason, it could potentially be that he was carrying injuries last year and this year it's his stress fracture, but again in seasons when we don't have alot to gain in terms of finals it would seem smarter to not make guys play through injuries

My days of crystal balling are well and truly over.....

Anyone who wants to say we will have a good midfield in 3-4 years time - I say phoeeyyy....

3-4 years ago we were being touted as being a powerhouse of the future with the brightest crop of young kids - how has that turned out.

I live in the now - Grimes has shown a lot but keeps getting injured. Jones - I think is a limited footballer but I love him because he give 100% each week. He is our number one midfielder and can hold his head high - but is he a Pendlebury ? a Cotchin ? an Ablett ? no siree. Trengove had a good first year but hasnt really fired since - jury is out. Toumpas and Viney could be anything - and they could be nothing.

Our midfield at present is no good and we are simply guessing by saying 3-4 years it will be very capable.

Fair enough mate, it's been a rough 6-7 years that's for sure, that's why i hope Neeld is sacked and they get the next appointment right! Jackson will fix the structure of the club, we need a new coach to rebuild the culture into the new structure and that's going to take time unfortunately but it will be a hell of alot quicker and easier if we make the right decisions on coaching and drafting and trading from this point on.

P_man I have never been of the opinion that Trengove is a good mid field player.

IMO he has been pushed in there because we are crap in that area.

I have always thought he is a good half forward.

Forget the middle he will be a 40 goal half forward.

No disrespect mate but i totally disagree, i think he's our best defensive midfielder at this stage by an absolute mile, and he is underdone, give him a good run at this pre season with no injuries and get abit of zip back and he could well have a very good year next year and beyond, he is all class

But getting him to rest and get himself right would have interfered with the 'Two Jacks' concept that was going to bring our club back to prominence! That, the blazers and our historically relevant logo. What an amateur you are! ;)

Never expected it would, the second he did a stress fracture i knew we could almost rule this year out as a potential break out year

Me too I thought he was played too early but I guess him on leg is better than 10 others mon two.

Absolutely but it's still not fair, if he played for Geelong he still wouldn't have been risked i don't think, it's the sad reality of where we are at plus some level of poor management

as much as i'm sure Trenners was beating the door down to play

Once he actually gets the ball in his hands (a rarity), you can see why he went so high in the draft. Generally his decision making is very good and he is of course an excellent kick. But you simply cannot compete at AFL level being as slow as he is, currently,

3 things that i think would make Jack Trengove and elite mid

1. get his pace back

2.push his average touches above 22 per game

3. back in his talent and show more attacking flair

Ah yes, so Cam Schwab, mastermind behind said blazer and logo, must have told misson and neeld to continue to play him despite injury, even though he's no longer at the club!

I'm slowly getting the hang of this!!

Edit: spelling

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
