Why would Jones be such a better captain than Grimes?

I would defend Grimesgove but clearly there are those on the inner sanctum such as the thread starter who know all about the inner workings of their leadership around the club. Who are we to question such educated opinions on the topic matter?

The most inspired appointment of a captain happened at Geelong years ago when they went for Tom Harley. At the time it seemed a strange decision but history shows it was inspired as he wasn't the first picked every week and he wasn't their best player but he was the best captain. He lead the leadership group that turned Johnson around and marked the start of their culture. Who is our Tom Harley? sadly I would have nominated Rivers but he left and clearly our coach didn't see him in that light as he removed him from the leadership group. I don't mind Grimes as captain, believe that trengove should have been vice captain and suggest that Garland may be the "Tom Harley" in the wings. Grant Thomas rotated the captaincy over 5 years until they found who among the group would hold the title and avoided the embarrassment of having to remove the captaincy from someone.

Rivers was far from captaincy material. His onfield body language was probably the worst I've seen from a player wearing a Melbourne jumper for more than a decade, and I personally am glad he is no longer wearing the red and blue.

While he frustrates the hell out of me with his disposal, Grimes is the perfect candidate for the "Harley-type" captain. Not the best player in our team, but always puts in 100% onfield, and from the little exposure I have had of him offield, he is quality.

Mate, this thread was posted 11 hours bfore the injury was announced, not one hour after. I think "dumb arse" is a more appropriate label than "smart arse".

Haha ok, got me there, didn't notice the am/pm... Fair call.

Clark? You mean the player who missed half of last year and will miss half of this year? Love him, but not a sensible choice. If you're going to change, has to be Jones.

Based on that theory and Grimes 2010 and 2011 seasons, he should've never been given the Captaincy in 2012.

OK so Grimesy is in hospital and Trenners cant get a kick or lay chase down an opponent.

Can we stop this crazy experiment now, and just give the hat to Jonesy ?

And ruin him too? No thanks.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
