Andrew Demetriou - Only a phone call away

Featured Replies

Does anyone think if we were to win less games than GWS and Gold Coast this season then the AFL would give us the first priority pick under the new rule?

well if they didn't then the AFL discretionary priority pick scenario would be a fantasy

i'd prefer something like the mini-draft rights. that would give us more scope and options

Pick up the phone MFC....Now.

7 years of Failure is more than enough incompetence.

The point has been proven.

G'day Vlad, this is Don speaking.

G'day Don, how they hangin'?

Listen Vlad, you said we should call if we need help, so how about...........................

So what comes next?

only one way to find out. Saturday night told me the club has reached the point of despair.

Nothing i heard on sunday changed my opinion sadly.

Give us the top 10 draft picks this year, our 500,000 back and a magical potion to make our players live up to their hype and we will forgive you for that whole investigation thing, sounds good :)

What rot.

We allowed ourselves to be "tormented". We allowed ourselves to be fined.

Don't invert things.

McLardy rolled over. McLardy caved under pressure.

And now we are paying the price.

Rangy, I normally like your attack @ the ball & willingness to take it on...

But IMO this time your wrong.

I can see we did the AFL a favour, & will be payed back for the understanding we showed in a quiet way, behind the scenes.

I'm sure we didn't take the hit, for free.

I'd be interested to know what sort of support AD was proposing. It's worth a phone call at the very least.

Plenty of money i hope Maybe a new CEO someone with ability and who doesnt (as CS seems to have) some strange hold over the Board

maybe CS has some pictures?

I do hope apart from your continuous prattling, other posters are deeply offended by you adopting the Black Power salute as a misguided attempt to signify something with your avatar...

The Raised Fist has been adopted by a long list of solidarity movements.

Know your history before you shoot your mouth off.

This is how the conversation should go

Don "Hi AD, we need the best sports CEO in the land and 2 quality board members"

AD "I think thats a great idea. Lets keep it hush until we've found the right people. We'll make it look as though you orchestrated it. We'll need you to stand down at years end"

Don "Fair enough, who will replace me?"

AD "One of the new board members will gather a ticket and we'll get this place rocking"

Don "So I'm a dead man walking?"

AD "You always have been Don"

how come the fist is greater than the club emblem rangey?

just sloppy photoshopping or what?

you need to fix that up

Adjusted DC!

Seriously who gives a F about the tanking investigation, why let it get in the way of help that we seriously need.

After 7 years I am amazed that supporters think that we can pull out of this ourselves. We have turned picks #4 and #5 into Rodan and Pederson, had Scully walk and Watts booed off after 5 years at the club.

I dont even know what type of help we could get that could pull us out of this rut. Even with picks 1 and 2 in this years draft will not make a difference as we will fk that up and take Boyd and Aish, who are 2 players which we do not need.

Only thing i can see fixing us up is with the AFL coming in and doing it themselves. Screw our pride for now, id rather AFL came in and we lost games by 15 points rather then this 148 crap against mediocre teams.

FFS , even Gillies gets off his striking charge.

"Slip us an extra 3 mill and lose the fine behind the mantle will ya"

"No dramas Don ,anything else ?"

"Tell Buddy he's ours"

"Done".

What blatant, outrageous hypocrisy.

The AFL tormented us mercilessly for most of last season and the entire offseason, fined us for something that we didn't do, and clearly caused more lasting damage to the club than is immediately obvious.

Well, we were (only) fined for something we obviously did do, but I'll let that one through to the keeper.

Agree with your post - and not forgetting in all this, the collateral damage to clubs like ours through starting up GWS and GC. We were down the bottom when those clubs started up, and surprise surprise, we're on the bottom still. The preferential picks that went across the various drafts (main, rookie, pre-season), the zoned players, the U17 players, the pickup of players from other clubs ... just not particularly helpful.

Does that mean he plays next week?

God deliver me

Won't be long at this rate .

Best you go on a cruise or something.

What about the near 20 first round draft picks we've had since 2005. Were they helpful?

I am going to live longer just to spite them Biff

And Williamstown on Saturday, not sure if that qualifies as a cruise

Refusing the help of the AFL would be cutting off our nose to spite our face. We are at a Sydney circa 1993 level of despair (the time they sent an SOS to Ron Barassi to go and save the club). If we don't get quality people into the club sooner rather than later, there might be no club.

Quite a lot seem to be missing this point CBF

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
