Time to go Mark Neeld

Featured Replies

Said Neeld came in and paid no respect to senior players, turned the club into an unhappy place to go to work. "It's nice to sleep at night and get up in the morning looking forward to the day ahead" "It's good to go into a game knowing what the game plan is"

Whack.

That's a pretty severe rap and if true would certainly make me question Mark Neeld. Having said that it isn't necessarily the opinion of those who remain at the club; as long as Neeld has buy-in from them then there's nothing to worry about.

Is he paraphrasing Garry Lyon's article?

What didn't he like?

The professional training? The new expectations? The demanding of accountability? Transparency? Senior players? What senior players? Moloney, Martin, Morton, Gysberts, Bennell?

Dumb comments by Rivers.

Rivers has come off sounding like a cry baby

Neeld did what we all wanted, came in and didn't play favorites

As a result we lost 2 sooks in Rivers and Moloney and neither will be missed

Yeah, what would Rivers know?

What would Rivers knoe - you'd be so MUCH better informed and would know so much more than a bloke who has become a key player in a great side

This.

When dean bailey was sacked he said the next Coach will have an armchair ride to the finals. I believed him. Yep, a lot of players were underdeveloped, but there was untapped talent that the right voice could made a difference. Neeld was not the voice, and ultimately, he put about 14 players in the "too hard" basket and went on to build neelds list. I look at neelds list, it's a bunch of battlers. I don't see premierships with these names. I don't even see finals.

Yep, you're on fire Pipefitter - Neeld absolutely inherited a bullet proof premiership list from Bailey.

Hard to disagree with that, despite the fact that we lost by 186 points to Geelong in an AFL game a couple of months earlier.

I know you don't bag your former club.

He wanted to go, shake hands and move on.

Firstly did you notice this in the first line "from Sundays team"

Clark, Trengove, Grimes and Blease are not out there to start with, after 2011 and 2012 Dawes has yet to show he is any more than an average player in a very good team.

Frawley is an average defender, Mcdonald could not hit the side of a barn with a howitzer and Gawn is half a dozen games into his career.

We have lost five out of six games by an average of 13 goals and we are seldom in a game by the end of the first quarter.

These are not the signs of a wonderful playing list.

If we have such a good list how come we have won 5 of the last 28 games and have beaten only one side above us on the ladder?

Because we have no midfield to speak of and the players I mentioned have been injured or returning from injury for most of Neeld's reign. We are not as bad as it appears. I'm sick of the constant coach and player bagging. We're 3 or 4 quality players from turning this bus around

Obviously Roost it we are not going to agree on this.

I would agree our lack of a mid field is our major problem.

But in my view we have a large number of players with below AFL standard skills.

That means IMO we need way more than three or four quality players.

That's big from what was a respected senior player.

We look worse because our best aren't fit or are injured and we lack a midfield

Look at Richmond. Cotchin, Martin, Deledio and Riewoldt might just be able to drag a very ordinary bunch into the finals.

Imagine if they had Frawley, Howe, Viney, Clark, Dawes, Grimes, Trengove, Blease, Garland, McDonald, Evans and Jones, hopefully Toumpas. Do you see my point now. We're 3 or 4 short of a finals time

This has been mentioned many times before but it seems that Neeld came in and did not acknowledge any of the good that Melbourne had before 2012 (yes, there was some good) and instead wanted to knock the foundations down instead of working what what was there.

I wrote about this with regards to the game plan in April last year:

http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/29733-game-plans-and-players/?hl=neeld

"contested possessions have little to do with winning games in today's football" - Leigh Matthews on Geelong tonight.

Not according to Neeld (and that other successful coach Brendon McCartney).

I would only take six of that group the rest are either average or are too young to know.

Mate they are not that good

When your house has rotten foundations you have no choice but to replace the footings.

It is only then that the Samurai can take his sword with confidence

One must protect its young with the experience and wisdom of the aged.

How's that for a complete load of horse [censored] :)

They are better than anything over at punt rd and the Tiges will finish ninth

Yes, there was a lot wrong with the Bailey era team, but there was still some good. I remember hearing Neeld first interviewed and thinking he sounded arrogant and disrespectful at times,

"contested possessions have little to do with winning games in today's football" - Leigh Matthews on Geelong tonight.

Not according to Neeld (and that other successful coach Brendon McCartney).

It's a ridiculous statement, because in order to get it into an uncontested situation, you have to first win it in a contested situation. Geelong make it look easy.

Run hard, tackle hard and use the ball well.

I don't care what game plan is being implemented - these are cornerstones of good teams. They are the fundamentals and foundation we should have been drilling into our team over the years.

It's never too late.

That is my whole argument Roost it they don't produce the results.

Richmond do and that is why they will finish (in your words ) ninth and we will be 17th

It is in the area of use the ball well.

IMO the vast majority of players with poor disposal skills never become great.

If you pick players that are poor kicks the majority stay that way.

Regarding Rivers he was on mmm also but never said anything about Neeld or bagged the club. he was asked why he left melbourne and basically said he'd been at melbourne for 10 years and really didnt enjoy losing and said melbourne offered him a contract and geelong offered him one so he obviously took that. Which you couldnt really blame him for.

Then he said the thing he noticed between the 2 clubs during the pre season was at melbourne it was more focused on running and at geelong the footballs were out the whole time doing skills work and drills.

His comments surprised me about neeld. Well the younger players are buying into neeld and players like jones are thriving on it and I know he hasnt been in the club for long but Mitch Clarke loves it at melbourne and Dawes decided to join.

Whack whack whack! Actually there were 10 players in Geelongs team tonight with under 50 games.

I have lost all confidence in Neeld and his excuses.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
