I think it's more attitude and desire than drinking.

If the guy, as reported, thought he saw better than the coaching dept and also refused to run a time trial because of the heat, it's a pretty clear indication he's not going to maximise his potential, whatever it may be.

I saw something in him, some serious skill, but if he doesn't have the attitude and desire to capitalise on it, then he's wasting everyone's time.

Glad he has been moved on.

If every player who had a poor game had their career ended there wouldn't be many players left...

It wasn't just that one game. He was probably in the red zone due to a number of issues. But he had a chance to change their minds in that game, and he missed his chance.

And sometimes one bad game can be the deciding factor. Shades of Morton against Collingwood last year.

Surely that's not true?

Any update on how Couch is progressing? I just don't see him getting a game this year, but that could be a pretty harsh view to take.

Clearly the club kept him for a reason and, given they axed some more skilled players and generally took a fairly ruthless approach to the list, they must see some upside to him.

Interesting to hear from anyone who's observed him at training.

Just what I've been thinking. He's hardly rated a mention in the training threads so far.

I reckon Magner might have an even tougher battle to break into the team this year as well.

With M Jones, Rodan and Viney now on the list, the rookies will really have to work hard to get a look in this year.

Interesting, with so many new faces at the club this year, we supporters all seem to have a variety of views on who will get games and how many in season 2013. Quite a shake up. I personally wouldn't have thought Byrnes or Rodan or Pedo would get that many, and the late draft pick guys could be anyone's guess. It's going to be great watching the year unfold. I hope 2012 will be left long behind.

I think Rodan barring injury, will play a lot this year. He could nearly be the specialist sub. If Pederson reproduces the "you tube game" form, he will play a lot as well.

I don't think he will be sub very often.

I just don't think it is worth having a player that is designated a third of the season. And I think he is more important than that.

Sorry Redleg but the thread has gone off topic. I agree. If he retains fitness he will play midfield/ forward. I think he will earn a game in his own right but a bit of muscle and experience wil be good for Viney and Toumpass. We don't want that embarrassing ( no disgraceful) experience of young players being monstered (like Jack Watts was) in his first game.

Its been said by somone else on anther thread??? but the structure and players last year was notably unsuccessful so major change is needed. The new players have a head start as they have obviously been carefully targetted to fill the deficiencies I expect Pederson Dawes Byrnes and Rodan etc to get plenty of games. If they dont it can only be good as it means the standards of those from last year will have been raised. Perhaps that is even starting at training where the enthusiasm of Viney and Barry is always mentioned. It appears to have rubbed off on many others. I too think its going to be great year to watch. As KEV says "Im excited"

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
