"We're really keen to increase that presence by having more home-and-away games up here and we'd like to make the camp a permanent fixture in our program," Neeld said.

"We're looking down the track to play two home-and-away games up here plus a NAB Cup match. If we could do that it would give us three games plus our camp.

"There is a bye in the AFL season we'd take advantage of by sending all or some of our players up here that might need some extra conditioning.

"That suits our club's objectives and that of the AFLNT and the NT Government as well..."

What's everyones thoughts...

For me this is a big no. I'm happy to sell one game but considering we now seem to play a home game at Etihad every year I don't want anymore games away from our ground.

I agree with you, there is no money in Darwin.

It's a dump.

I'd be happy to play an away game up there, surely Port need the cash and they get no one to their games in SA so if we have to play a home game there we should get the other as an away.

It shouldn't be left to the poorer Melbourne based clubs to [censored] their home games every year. If we had a permanent away game there it could be shared between Port, Brisbane ( who aren't floating in cash) Gold Coast and GWS.

What if we played 2 in Darwin and no home games at Forgetihad?

You have my Vote.

I don't see the problem with playing games in Darwin.

If it increases the coffers go for it I say

If this can become a fortress like Launceston is to the Hawks and the finances add up, why not. If the players can use the camp to cool down their core tempreture from humidity training and give us an advantage, great. I like the idea of pencilling in two wins at the start of the season.

Also, they love there football in Darwin. If the club can tap into building more members/supporters, like the Hawks have done it bodes well for the club.

Darwin will soon become the gateway to Asia with the airport upgrade.

Theres a method to the madness.......

Of course HG don't take any notice of Demonland.

The MFC know what makes money and Darwin does.

WE will have an increased number of games in 2014 and beyond

Two games in succession, against ordinary teams, and leading into a bye would be ok by me.

Problem is the Hawks supporters can get to the Tassie game and back in one day, that's near impossible for us in Darwin and if it's a Sunday night it means you miss the next day at work.

Welcome to the world of interstate supporters... we have had one game in Sydney in six years and again get just one game in 2013.

Have not heard anything bad yet RobbieF

Seriously we need extra money streams and Playing in Darwin is one of them.

No choice IMO

Maybe the club will sell affordable packages. A deal through Webjet could be on the cards. Dare to Dream Robbie

Also, take a sickie on the Monday. Football is more important than work :-)

I went up this year. Had a great time and got well and trulied while we were flogged. However, it cost a shiteload. I am going again next year ( against the lions) but I could not afford two visits. Darwin is expensive.

What if we played 2 in Darwin and no home games at Forgetihad?

Probably a better option IMO especially if AFL guarantee a gate and travel is cost neutral. Wasteland games are always run at a loss I believe.

Theres a method to the madness.......

well..ive always been dead against it.

i do understand..'method in madness" however

i also understand proof of a pudding ...etc

I'd just call it premature escalation !!

I will leave this alone and just laugh. "Darwin is a dump", "no money to be made in Darwin". Hilarious.

As I previously stated with the airport upgrade a connection to China, a $40 billion gas project approval (Ichthys) with construction already started, a booming offshore Oil & Gas industry in which Darwin will be the major port, a connection with America through defence, booming Mine projects waiting in the wings.

The possibilities are endless with sponsorship. This club needed to expand and think outside the square for our future wellbeing & I really applaud them for that.

Theres also no reason why they cant still focus on other areas down south as well as Darwin either. The NT is ours and if we want it to work it will be greatly beneficial. Theres so many kids running around with Dee's jumpers like never before, its my resposibility to get them onboard.

My word there is some negative people on here sometimes, stand up and support your club and support them for having a go. I love this club & the supporters and I will never knock anyone for having a crack.

Theres some quality people at the club who are doing great things.

Get on board. Sign up a friend.

My focus is now to get an early night and go spend my last day off with the Dees tomorrow, just so I can bring you guys another training report!!

If the club has lifted its standards right from top to bottom, then why cant us supporters do it as well.

Sayonara.

Hawthorn still play quite a few games at the G with their 5 (?) Tassie Games.

If I were Emperor of the World (and god willing one day that will come) I would play a couple in Darwin, a couple in Casey against PA, GC, GWS, BL, Freo, WCE and NM, keep our 14 MCG games (8 home, 6 away), and only travel a handful of times a year...

Red Emperor? Spangled Emperor?

The players can spend the whole off season in Darwin for all I care.

We belong at the G, all our 11 home games should be played at the MCG. Just is a pointless hassle to play home games in Darwin. Just make money by trying to fill the MCG. If we want to grow a fan base in Darwin, then let's encourage them to get to the MCG, where we're meant to be.

Darwin proposes many more business opportunities than Launceston and Hobart. Population in Darwin is higher than Launceston. Its an opportunity the club could expose if completed wisely.

oh please NA I am very tired of this "Entitled Attitude"

The only think we are entitled to is be part of the competition.

We have to increase our revenue streams and Darwin is one.

If that means a game or two are not played at the MCG and the MFC gets more money and stronger then so be it.

I would rather see 9 home games at the G and win 18 a year then 11 at the G and perform the way we have for the past 6 years.

Is this a statement from the 'Boys Club' that many talk about? Time to move on and build the club past the Geriatrics that have controlled the club for too long.

I would too, but we are still more likely to win at the MCG than in Darwin. Think of all the supporters who can't get to these games as well. It's not for me to care whether the club makes money or not because I'd rather see us win 18 games and lose money (Would be hard too though with the influx of members and attendance at games)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
