My sentiments to Mr Bean. I have no bad feelings toward LJ, but i was actually hurt when he just walked. The MFC is a better place for the LJ experience, it is just sad he HAD to go back home that weekend. If he had stayed south the no. 24 may still be on the list.

I completely agree with Tredrea, I think the fact that they took him is a paradoxical indication that they're not ready for him. I simply can't fathom why a professional football club would want to take him on at this point in his life. It's like they listened to all their forum footy experts who said he was worth a punt and took it from there. I think it's irresponsible recruiting myself, but whatever floats their boat.

Port need every win and piece of good news they can get. They just posted a 2-4 million dollar loss, are leaking players and face a couple of years re-building with a new coach. Gaining an experienced and talented forward / excitement machine who'd be a walk up started in their 22 for Zero in the rookie draft is a no brainer. If things go bad for Liam in his court case in March they say "see ya" and calm they did their best by Liam etc...

Liam is not a toxic influence on the group, he worked hard and kept his head down until last year when things went off the rail.

I do not profess to have knowledge of the cultural divide that separates us but the thing that irked me was the complete lack of acknowledgment of the support the club had given him - I would have been happy enough for his manager or the club to make a statement on Liam's behalf "Liam has asked me to thank.....etc".

I would be surprised if Liam's culture does not find the giving of appreciation necessary. I restate that I have no knowledge of the culture but I believe that it is a basic human trait that spans all cultures that when levels of support and help are given, appreciation/acknowledgment is shown/given in return

Do you have any understanding of contracts?? Have you ever heard of Free Agency or the National/Pre season draft?? How many AFL player contracts have you seen/reviewed?? Have you ever heard of the concept of restriction of trade??

How about producing some facts to your statements before slagging people off.... I would love to hear you expain how an AFL contract is different to an employment contract. And yes i do understand the restrictions the AFL places on player movement.

Here's a fact: Football is not a "normal" job. How many times have you heard of someone in a "normal" job being traded? ie: 2 Companies agree to swap workers...

Here's another fact: Free agency, draft periods etc etc are all part of a players contract.

And here's one more: In ANY industry, someone who does not honor contracts does not last long, so apply that to your thinking when you say players are free to walk club to club willy nilly.

In regards to Jurrah costing us nothing that is true Iin a sense he was a Rookie pick and always was a risk, did he effect our culture well yes in part he did or should I say those who invested in him did, he was another in a long list of project players. Lets not forget we originally were looking at taking a hard working mid who could also play forward at the time. But we didn't and Rockliff went to Brisbane where his hard work paid off. He could have been a handy pick up and provided quality leadership but we will never know

Whichever draft it was Pre season or Rookie it was 2008 and Rockliff went in the same draft and had been training with us, our ethos around the period 2008-11 seemed to be Project over Workrate

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but the fact Jurrah is trying to keep his career going at Port when all these things are far from resolved suggest to me that's not much of an excuse for him.

I think you are all missing the point.

I understand why LJ had to cut and run from the MFC but i thi. there are a range of issues here that none of us will understand.

His career is on a knifes edge and he is a football player - has to make an income and be near home.

It will take a while till this issue geta towards the point end of thibgs but let us remember rhat

LJ wasnt a hack, he was a sharp tool in the shed and was a cut above the rest.

MFC didn't get the special permission, pretty sure Collingwood did that

I'm happy that we neither asked for, nor received any compo in these circumstances because, in a football sense, he was not a player for who compensation is warranted.

Jurrah had talent to burn but did we ever really see him do the things necessary to enhance his talent to the point where he could have become one of the stars of the competition? Long before the alleged machete attack in Alice Springs, the training reports about him generally suggested otherwise. He didn't have much of a tank to start off with but what did he do to improve that?

Now he presents himself to train at Port Adelaide for a PSD or rookie spot and the visual evidence suggests he hasn't done much work in between his departure to Adelaide and the present time - Jurrah back on the track. His excuse might be that he has other things to worry about like the sad state of his community and his family and his forthcoming trial. That's true but if you want to be a professional footballer you have some responsibility to your club and your team.

Tredrea is 100% correct. Jurrah, the footballer, needs to prove himself at State League level before getting another chance.
