The AFL havent yet agreed to the Crows forfeiture. They might lose the first two picks next year as well. IN which case Adelaide's move is one of damage limitation. ie lose 2 + 2 rather than 4 next year. Given they have çrouch it won't hurst as much

The AFL have agreed. You are right that it may help lessen the overall penalty and either way, this year they only lose a late first and third round picks, so not too heavy at the moment.

They will still lose picks next year and maybe even the year after plus a fine of about the same amount as the breach. They also will lose Tippett for nothing.

It will end up a heavy penalty.

So they expect to get a massive hit and are trying to get a reduced sentence.

IMO they are admitting guilt.

They have already admitted guilt in the first instance and they have been caught in the spotlight on the issue of coming clean.

This is Adelaide dictating terms on what will happen. Do not like it.

They arent. But they are trying to mitigated outcomes. Sensible givne the corner they are in.

If you are guilty and are trying to lessen the blows it is not IMO a bad tactic.

No chance it will make the penalities worse and has the potential to lessen them.

Agree.

It will be hard to tell whether Adelaide's efforts mitigates what is going to be a heavy penalty that will take 2 years of the draft from them.

It will hurt their list management for up to 10 years.

Heads will roll at AFC.

you certainly let them off lightly...

wyl this is not my plan

I am trying to suggest that they might feel that taking a proactive course lessens the blow.

It might work what have they got to lose?

IMO it is a tactic worth taking

yes particularly as there draft picks this year are pretty crap. I don't blame the Crows for trying. I blame the AFL for accepting it.

They are letting them off lightly.

I don't think we know that yet.

I will reserve judgement until we hear the penalties.

Exactly. We need to hear the full penalties given down before going off half cocked.

could be a few beers on it mate.

The AFL don't want 2 basket cases in South Australia sadly.

Just like Meth Coke got away with far more than they should have.

This years draft loss no first two picks in 2013 and a big fine ( Half a million! )

But lets wait and see

Money is a hardly a penalty for Adelaide. They have plenty.

Just cos they have money doesn't mean it's not a penalty, don't think you can say... 'That club is rich, so lets hurt them another way'

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
