FAREWELL JORDAN GYSBERTS

Stu, it's thing again about learning which posters you can believe when they give pieces of information. Footynut is another that I'd back. Of course it's silly to believe everyone and everything, but I reckon you're around enough to build a good enough picture.

I also think there's a difference between rumour and speculation. Making up information and spreading it around the information is a rumour. Taking snippets of factual information (or even mixing facts in with some rumours) to try and built a picture when the picture isn't complete is speculation. Anyone who knowingly spreads a false rumour is a [censored]. Anyone who believes every rumour they hear on the internet is gullible. But people who try to draw conclusions based on the morsels of information we get on the internet are what makes sites like this interesting. If there was no room for speculation on the forum, which you seem to be rallying against, we may as well shut this site down at this time of year.

I agree. You get a feel for who is genuine quite quickly. It doesn't mean what they're sharing is fact, it may be or may not be, but you appreciate that they wouldn't post it unless they thought it was a credible source. I find it quite easy to use my gut feel in these matters.

I posted a rumour a couple of years ago, which didn't eventuate. It cuts me to the quick til this day. You have a good memory...

Not so good that I don't need to resort to the search engine sometimes. I can't be bothered on this occasion, so you and your conscience are on your own. :)

Edit: I recall you might've been one of those convinced that we'd landed Judd, but given the volume of information that was around then it's hard to tell whether that's a real memory or a false one I've created just now because you prompted me.

I'd disagree with your first part Nasher. I'd think it fair to say that anyone who gives "facts" without any source or real substance to back it up can be assumed as speading rumours. This is the internet, lack of fact is a given.

No, even on the anonymity of a forum, some posters are more credible than others. Of course nobody will score a 10 out of 10 on believability; every single thing you read on here is second hand (since nobody from the club posts on here in an official capacity except for Cam Schwab occasionally), so even the highly credible posters will get bum information sometimes, or misinterpret what they've heard etc. It doesn't mean that you can't get a feeling for things that at least have some basis for fact and who usually posts good information.

I really just don't get the fuss about this kid, he reminds me of Dexys Midnight Runners!

( some of you might struggle with that, others get it in a flash....c'mon )

I love Dexys!!!! And I wear the number 5 jumper......

Slight rumour floating around Brisbane - Gysberts and Martin for pick 24.

That would be wonderful

Slight rumour floating around Brisbane - Gysberts and Martin for pick 24.

No thanks. Would just prefer trading Martin for pick 33 while he has worth really don't see any point in trading Gysberts for pretty much nothing

Slight rumour floating around Brisbane - Gysberts and Martin for pick 24.

33 24 no difference. regardless of what it is we ll use it as a pick in a trade where we are just paying overs again.

Reckon we need to make list room if we are showing Rodan around the AAMI Park facilities, as reported.

Errr " available evidence"??? That would be zero then.

But if you mean innuendo and speculation then he is a goner.

The following articles all discuss our trading Gysberts...

so "On available evidence, Jordie is being shopped around for a worse pick than we paid to recruit him.", ...

Good luck with that. When I "get a feeling" from the internet, the last thing I'd do would be to look at it as the "basis for fact". That's on a par with Dennis Denuto's 'its the vibe'! Lol!

If its worth stating as a hard fact, it's worth acknowledging a source.

Here's some evidence for you mate...

1st article: "Midfielder Jordan Gysberts, selected with pick No. 11 the year before, could also be on the move"

Hardly thinking saying something "could" happen would pass as evidence in court.

2nd article: "He said no decision has been made on the futures of Lucas Cook, Cale Morton and Jordan Gysberts, who are all former first-round draft picks."

Not exactly damming evidence there either mate.

3rd article: "The Cats' success in acquiring Caddy means the club is no longer pursuing Melbourne onballer Jordan Gysberts."

Meaning the Cats were after him, no mention of Melbourne's intent.

Geez I hope you're not representing Liam Jurrah...

Stuie the articles are from reporters who talk to the footy industry,

The first article suggests that Dawes may go to Melbourne, Rivers to Geelong, and Caddy and McIntosh to Geelong...

If you only want to listen to the voice inside your head, thats ok.

I'd prefer to read about the latest discussions and proposals going on inside the AFL from those professional reporters (greg Denham aside) being paid to report on them.

Mate, they're your articles that you brought up as "evidence" but there is not a shred of evidence in them.

Get a rooms lads....

I always believe what reporters say in the newspapers and on the radio (greg denham aside). Nothing wrong with that Paul. They are the very best reporters of fact that society has. I'm with you all the way....................

Get a rooms lads....

Would have to be a ménages à trois with these two.

Careful, this is how rumours start...

And not long after, they're facts.

Your interpretation of my post was... Interesting. Not very close to the mark at all, but interesting all the same.

Some posters don't read posts - they just skim and get the 'vibe' and go from there...

I wish gysberts would harden up. Has great potential, 25 possession debut wasn't it? Another Bailey reject. very sad

You have an interesting choice of avatar given your username.

Only at this time of year?

Anyway, along with HG, I put a lot of weight in footynut's posts.

There are some very good posters on this forum who I respect, but I still take some of their 'insider' claims with a grain of salt.

Those 2 above-mentioned posters have as much integrity as is possible, as far as anonymous contributors via the internet.

Thats my take as well - there are certain on here who post that they have "heard" or "spoken with someone" and you take that to the bank as those words are not typed frivilously - lots of others I dismiss by scrolling to the next post.

I

I'll bite - what's a "slight" rumour ?

A rumour may have somewhere from a little to no substance and slight rumour has less than no substance ?

If we can't organise a trade for him, surely we'll hold on to him. There isn't any worth in delisting him and trying our luck with an unknown draftee at 40+.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
