Lachie Plowman

I am convinced Oliver Wines is the player we must select.

He is perfect for us at the moment - all the stars have aligned.

Mates with Viney, fits Neelds' type perfectly, quality mid that we desperately need...

Plus impeccable sources have stated we'll take him pick 4 if available.

But I fully expect people in 4 years' time to be scratching their heads, trying to figure out how Plowman was selected so late, much in the same vein as Selwood, Dengerfield and Rioli.

This guy is an exceptional mover, defender and reader of the play.

Obviously not a good fit for us, as our backline is fairly well stocked but he will be a champion.

The closest thing I've seen to Scarlett.

Wouldn't surprise me to see GWS take him at pick 3.

Obviously no hope we'll select Lachie, but just saying.

Plus, he's a dees supporter.

Yes, just wrong timing for our list.

Btw, there seems to be the odd rumour that GWS will take Wines at 3 and leave Grundy on the table. I can't fathom that happening as Grundy perfectly complements their list, especially if Giles goes to Adelaide.

If the unthinkable did happen and they overlooked Grundy we'd have a massive decision to make. Grundy will be an absolute gun that any club would want, but we're desperate for mids. I assume we'd take O'Rourke or Macrae.

I would have to consider Grundy too.

But surely GWS need to get a ruckman from SOMEWHERE??

I can't fathom it either.

They have so many mids on their list, they'd only be pushing other kids out.

Doesn't make any sense.

Although I can see the appeal of Wines...

If Grundy was available I would take him. Mids come on quicker therefore we can be patient for the best mids next year. Viney and Taggert and Jones etc may do for now. Dominant big men are hard to find and this kids got the hallmarks of one of the best. Taking the emotional pull that some have for Wines, I think Grundy is easily the best if available at pick 4.

I would love Plowman as well because I don't think our backline is as good as people make out however, unfortunately we can't do it all this year.

Where do people get this idea from that are backs are well stocked, enough defenders etc.We have Mcdonald,Frawley as Key backs.garland is to unreliable with skills & dosnt match up on bigger forwards, macdonald is very ordinary for 9 out of 10 games & we could possibly loose Rivers.Bartram well not sure how he recovers from injury, apart from that we do'nt have a lot in my opinion. Not saying we do'nt need mids as i believe you can never have enough but our backs ar'nt exactly A-class & we could use extras for future

I agree with what you are saying AD, but we all know we need a mid at 4 more than a back imo

Ifwe keep Rivers we will be looking fine, also with one of Davis or Williams coming on could help

Sheahan is probably a better bet than both these to come on, played some really good football in his first year with Casey.

As desperate as I am and as the club is for a classy midfielder I can't argue with your logic.

If Grundy is deemed to be clearly the best talent when it comes to pick 4 I wouldn't have an issue with them taking him, although I know many supporters will have a fit. We need mids, mids and then more mids, but we also must take the clear best talent. And if that's Grundy so be it.

I hope we don't have to make the choice.

Thing is, if GWS had pick 5 or 6 I could understand them leaving Grundy til later.

But as it stands, they need him a lot more than any mid, and I simply can't see them passing him up.

In the end will will have another 4 drafts before we can even think premiership thats 4 top 10 mids potentially and another 4 before 25 essentially if we want also? taking best available is always the best bet imo and you can carry more younger mids once Jones, Grimes, Viney and Trengove have matured as said they come more ready made.

Someone said they heard or maybe its their opinion that GWS may think they can just trade for a Jacobs Maric or Mumford in a year or two rather than spending the big picks on the ruckman now

About time Plowman's name came up...Moves like a thoroughbred! ...I hear where you are coming from..

Looks to be a cut above TAC Cup in role as tall defender.. But his movement through the midfield and forward of is why he's so highly rated. I see glimpses of a couple of elite AFL midfielders in him.... speed, evasiveness, ball usage....is at the elite level.

Has been pigeon holed in defense with Cannons and not sure why... but think it's team structure and missed 50% of season with injury.. I think he's more than a defender and capable of being a dynamic midfielder or am i missing something ?

Agree 100%. He is their "must" pick. They are desperate for a Grundy. You could also be right in that they take Plowman with 3, as they are weak down back. 12 & 13 would give them a couple of mids if they want more.

I get confused whether it is sheehan or Williams who got sent back and played really well? will assume it was Sheehan in the end?

Sheahan I think spent most of the year in defence and by all accounts came along very well.

Williams is the blond guy who had the near death experience mid season, like induced coma in ICU etc, yet almost miraculously came back at all, and played some reasonable footy late in the year. He would easily have been forgiven for quitting altogether, or at least taking the remainder of the year off so I suspect that he is one hell of a determined dude.

I wish them both well - were either or both to produce their best they would be a massive bonus. Both as I understand are fully developed big bodies.

This is a really good post as I know one of the full time Collingwood Recruiting staff who lives down the road and whilst he is always careful not to reveal too much, he did say a few weeks ago when he realised that it was extremely unlikely they would have a Pick in the first half dozen that it was Collingwood's view that Plowman is nearly the best long term Prospect in this Draft.

He stated that Collingwood believe he will eventually be a midfielder and stated that Plowman is the next Pendlebury. he said that the Dees should grab him with one of our 2 picks, 3 & 4.

Grundy does look good doesn't he; he rucks, roves his own ball, marks strongly, kicks goals and just seems to be an all round good player. We would have to make a decision about Gawn if we took him and I could see him as an extra string in the forward line bow.

If we didn't have such a poor midfield you'd take him in a heartbeat.

If we had to chose between him, Toumpas and Wines; what do you do?

I have some friends in recruiting and plowman at the start of the year was probably melbourne's number 1 player for this year in the TAC. That is not including interstate players obviously. The club loved him. He missed so much football that things have changed a little. They still think he is a great prospect and I know he is a favourite. I think if we missed on hogan then he was going to be a dee. He ticks every box a recruiter is looking for. I would not be unhappy if we pick him. I know a cannons coach and he thinks he could be anything.

No Sheahan is still a kid, tall but still skinny. Very good skills and reads the play well, he will develop into a good player for us.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
