Biggest make or break deal of the decade...

Lets hope we got this one right

Ok -put your cojones on the line without the benefit of hindsight - did we get it right or wrong ?**

**rules - if you think we got it wrong and he turns out a star you will not be allowed to gloat about him in 2 years time like you actually suggested him and got him signed up. if you think we got it right and he turns out a dud you are not allowed to whinge down the track "but we could have ......" . Choose carefully.

"At 195 cm and 97.4 kg, Hogan ran a 20 metre sprint at the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine in 3.02 seconds - regarded as midfield standard. He also ran the three km time trial in 10 minutes 20 seconds.

Hogan also has great acceleration on the lead, and is a strong contested mark."

Weighs more than Cook and Watts put together.

Can someone fill me in on dom Barry google has come up with a few things. I like this "Dom Barry used his electric speed to glide across the wings with the ball on numerous occasions."

For those freting about using pick 13 ect

From trade week we get a NET GAIN

we would have had to use pick 3 on Viney anyway, Then got Hogan at a bargain of pick 13, upgraded pick 26 to pick 20 and a free Zone selection player who was going in the second or third round.

So the net gain is large for us imo, Got massive unders for Hogan in the end and a nice upgrade and nice player in return.

Don't get me wrong I am very happy with players so far but I disagree on the massive unders bit for Hogan. 3 is a massive pick in this draft and the best available after GC gave pick 2 to GWS. I understand the side benefit but pick 3 to me is well worth a player who might slip next year, can't play for us next year and is taken then instead of say a Toumpas now. To add 13 for 20 even with Barry is overs in my view. The drop from 13 -20 will cost us possibly Kennedy or someone as good.

Nevertheless we have a potential star in Viney, another in Hogan, an exciting kid and pick 20 to use on probably Dawes. So I suppose if we said we would have Viney, Hogan, Dawes and Barry for 3,13 & 26 we would be happy.

Tomorrow's forecast: early drizzle with clouds clearing by midday, blue skies in the afternoon.

Good times. I'm impatient and therefore wish we could get Hogan straight in there next year, but good on the club. Gun midfielder at 4 please.

Pick 4 for a gun midfielder please, either orourke or wines

Someone explain to me why we gave up pick 13?

To get the deal done.

I think we had to talk GC into taking Martin at pick #2

With original price being 2 first rounders 5 + 6 GC were reluctant to try top it.

Seems like we went in and provided that 2nd pick for GC to snare Martin at 1.

See it as

MFC to GC: Pick 13 to let Viney slide.

GC to GWS: Pick 13 + 2 for Martin. (Better then picks 5 + 6)

MFC to GWS: Pick 3 for Hogan

Alternative would have been

GC bids on Viney and uses 2 on Toumpas

We keep 4 and 13 and take Viney/O Rourke/Dawes/26

GWS snares picks 5 and 6 for Martin

Apologies if it has been posted already.

Watch from 2:40 for some footage of Jesse

Or look at it this way Scully for Hogan, 20 and Barry

Now let's pay Moloney's wage to Brereton and Carey to be our forward coaches. Take full advantage of Clark and Hogan

Like the way we have "won big" in the first 2 days of the draft period.

It puts the message out there to prospective players considering Melb that the good ship MFC is on the rise.

Additions of Viney, Hogan and Pick 4 are just what the doctor ordered.

Well done.

The following, from the official MFC site, doesn't do much to douse the rumours about this deal being done yesterday morning and being held off in the hope of avoiding draft tampering allegations:

"The Dees now have Hogan, picks No. 4 and 20, Jack Viney (via the father/son rule at No.26) and Barry from the opening day of the trade period."

That's it!! Plus whatever else happens this week, can guess we'll spend the next days with collingwood

As GWS are part of the AFL, I see it being pretty damn bulletproof.

Hogan is only a good deal at pick 3 if you think we wouldn't have been in a position to get him anyway in 2013.

I would suggest there is every chance that we will have another pick in the top 3 next year, which means that we would be right in the mix to have taken him at the proper time.

History will show that most, if not all, of the mini draft trades have been massive overspends. GWS must be laughing themselves sick.

I don't think they would do it because it may be considered draft tampering but maybe just maybe we gave them pick 13 and they gave us the choice at pick four of Toumpas or Wines or O'Rourke?

Wow ...we just got Joel Selwood(Viney), Jonathan Brown(Hogan) and Lewis Jetta(Barry).

And we still have picks 4 and 20...hahahahaha!

If Gysberts leaves #5 must be given to the HULK!

We'll have to wait for history to reveal itself. Given Hogan was in the MN he was never going to be available next year.

Happy with this deal, real quality power forwards are rare and valuable, and as such I'm happy for the MFC to secure one of the best available.

And btw we will finish higher than 16th next year.
