Let me preface this by saying it's from the Herald Sun...

Down the bottom of this article about Jones winning the Bluey it says:

"Melbourne already has signalled its intention to be active when the extended three-week trade period begins in October.

Moloney and Rivers are expected to leave as free agents, and Jordan Gysberts and Colin Garland have attracted interest from other clubs."

This is the first I've heard about Col possibly being traded. Would have thought with Rivers possibly gone we wouldn't be considering it, unless we already had something lined up.

On his day col is an excellent backman tall small or big.

He lacks a bit of smarts with the ball, but majority of the time is pretty good, had a poor 2012 but he is certainly not alone. Can see why other clubs would be looking keeper for me

I am interested in Miranda Kerr. Not sure if she is coming my way though.

Just remember there are 11 players who are OOC.

Contracts will not be discussed until 16th Oct.

So effectively clubs could be looking at all 11.

If they aren't then why should we.

I find this interesting. And the reason - IMO it just shows how our leadership culture seems already to have radically changed.

I have no concern about any of our current leadership group wanting to go elsewhere, even in the face of overwhelming interest from other clubs.

Contrast that with the re-signing of our other "leaders" over the years (Neita and Junior not included).

Sums it up really.

I've got no idea what you're saying here. Maybe it's early in the day and the brain's not switched on yet but what's your point?

having caught on to the fan interest in 'trade week' the Hun is using it to drive traffic to its site with whatever gossip it can think up or find when trawling bigfooty/fan sites.

Players can't be traded in the first year when they have just signed a new contract.

Herald Sun journalism at it his finest.

BTW I would let him go at the right price, had a terrible year.

Jeez the Herald Sun know how to avoid research, a google search saying "Colin Garland signs" immediately brings up an article that he re-signed for 3 years in July this year, from the Herald Sun.

Neita and Junior excluded, virtually all of our senior players over the last decade or so have held the club to ransom over their contract extensions. IMO this said something about the leadership and culture of the joint.

Examples include Green (when the Pies were circling), Davey (when Freo was circling), Bruce (when the Hawks were an option), Yze in 2002 (when Carlton was circling), TJ also in 2002 (when the Pies were circling) etc.

There are many instances - the above are merely completely off the top of my head.

With this group though, you have each of them committing to the club without any protracted negotiation - indeed, even before the end of the season. They seem to want to play out their careers here - leaving is not an option for them.

A prime example of this is Trengove who essentially committed to the club for the rest of his career immediately following the 186 point demolition to the Cats.

There's is a change in culture and leadership underway here - and I think this comparison provides a good illustration of that.

Yeah I thought that was what you were getting at. I agree. The signs are more encouraging than anything I've seen in the last who knows how many years. This is why I'm optimistic. Neeld and Co. are like a good dose of laxatives. We need to have a serious purge and keep only those who are willing to put success ahead of their own interests.
