Jack Grimes ''Time For Team To Rise Up''

Featured Replies

Grimes could have said "I'm not going to insult your intelligence with yet more empty promises. What I can say is that we've let the supporters down this year and we're going to make amends by training as hard as we can over the summer and as captain I'm going to make it my business to make sure that every player in the club buys into the coaches' plans for 2013 and beyond".

If he'd said that he's have won some respect instead of looking like the Cameron Bruce of his generation.

In the same breath as saying he won't make promises you have Grimes making two.

Please Jack I know you have to be positive and try and lift the spirits of us all after the worst season in 30 years

But Stay cool till round 10 when we have won 5 then shoot from the hip.

Sadly for me it is "heard it all before"

Actions are what I want and that won't happen for 5 months

If he doesn't get 30 touches this weekend we should ship him out the door ASAP.

Honestly - what do people expect the club captain to say on the club website!? If you don't want to hear it - don't read it. Our club still needs to function to continue to grow our membership numbers etc.

FWIW, I'm sure the West Coasts etc. come out with this kind of stuff as well.

"Sorry".

I said not empty promises. There's nothing wrong with the captain showing some leadership. He just has to choose his words more carefully.

Don't give me words.

irony overload

As someone else said where he is going for holidays

That he has a new dog

That it was great to play a whole season

That Mark Neeld is a great coach

That his mother makes great apple pies.

That his brother loves playing at Richmond

That he is looking forward to welcoming aboard a new lot of draftees

Anything else

Some of you are just posturing and it makes my eyes roll.

You don't have to get excited by what he says, but don't give this "shut up and show me" attitude.

I know self-righteousness and it is just that.

Yep - any of those articles would go down great on 'Land...

are you referring to "getting touches" on the end of season trip, 'cos he sure ain't going to get any in the footy field?

Oh.

Give me possessions and give me goals.

Don't give me words.

It's the offseason genius...

"Sorry".

Dang.

He could've made up for our whole season with one word - if only he'd have known!

I've heard some of these phrases since the 80s and I know that many of you have heard them long before me.

However, there were a couple of very interesting points to the piece.

1. 'Grimes said he had never trained as hard as he did during 2012, with sessions as tough as games. The demanding sessions hardened the body and the mind and tested the resolve of some players.' This would indicate what many of us have suspected: that the preseason for 2013 began in late 2011. Time will tell if this is a good move.

2. 'It's not for everyone and lot of guys won't be there for the whole ride.' From JG's perspective, there is a clear distinction between those who want to play for MN and those who don't. It stands to reason that next year's group will consist of a lot more of the former.

"Sorry".

What has JG got to be sorry for? I know that this is tempting a witty response but the question has to be asked.

Sorry me and the boys put you all through th footballing equivalent of Dante's seven circles of hell?

Cameron Bruce still thinks we can make the finals.

Bruce reckons 'we're flying' at the moment...

Grimes's goal for the year is to go ONE SINGLE GAME without an out on the full.

SPORTSBET odds are pretty high....

I have also heard my fair share of post-season "can't wait for preseason" but this one from Grimes has a different slant on it. He is beinbg full-face hinest about people not buying in to training - something he simply can't do publicly mid season. He remonds me a bit of Newman from the Tiges. He is a bit unassuming but says it quietly but with strength. His leadership could be a huge part of future improvement.

If some are completely honest it wouldn't matter WTF Grimes said, as they'd be saying "talk is cheap", or "we've heard it all before".

So if you agree that that's true, which only a liar could disagree with, then STFU. You don't have to pass comment on every comment or article that comes out of the club, which is obviously for the consumption of the average supporter

More Jack Grimes' in this draft please.

Doesn't he have a brother that is of draft age? And there are other brothers younger still to come.

Can anyone confirm this?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
