Agree. We keep hearing about the outside players and we don't have any. Morton is actually one. He can run all day and rack up the receives. You need a couple of them. He is also tall so maybe in a year or so could fill in somewhere else if needed to pinch hit.

Blease is another, but without the endurance.

Disagree on Morton. Agree on Blease. Blease actually tries to create something and will be a 70m player when he gets some endurance. We are seeing glimpses of it now. Gets the ball and runs a few metres before dishing it off. If there is space he goes for a gallop. Morton doesn't do that.

First Gysberts is not de listed. He has 1 year of a contract to go. He evidently wants to move on. The MFC is probably fielding offers or looking at a deal.

Are you suggesting the de listing etc is finished?

The process is very young JT there is a month to go before the real action starts

All will be revealed in the fullness of time

If Gys wants a trade, maybe we can for Caddy?

Now you have hit a nerve dee-luded

I think Caddy is one of the most over rated players on the GCS list.

IMO we should swap Petterd for caddy that would be a closer deal

I think you are wrong on this. When players like Swan and even Ablett get them it is usually because they get the ball, give it off and run to a position that demands the ball back. Often in a chain they will get 3 or 4 possessions, mostly uncontested.

The problem with players like Morton is that they hang around loose (5m off their opponent and incapable of defending against them if there is a turnover) get a cheap ball and dish it off. There is no run, spread or carry and the possession is next to useless.

Davey obviously thinks along your lines because he just sits behind Jamar and takes a cheap handball possession before dinking a kick 15m to a team mate. This is what I consider are next to useless possessions and demonstrates a player that is intent on bolstering his possession count rather than being a genuine help to the team.

I think you're both right. There is a clear place in the game for players who can rack up uncontested ball, but that doesn't come at the expense of being able to defend, putting your head over the footy when it's your turn, or running hard into space with or without reward. It certainly doesn't come at the expense of quality disposal that truly advantages the team. Melbourne needs players who can do all of those things.

Old Dee,,,,, comeon, I've haven't seen him play in the U-18's, but when the Bombers & the Cats think he's what they want I listen. The bombers have had a couple of seasons at him.

apparently many other clubs are also interested.

I'm interested in they're interest, as we need hard inside/outside mids with strong bodies.

Maybe you'd better go to the Dentist. And get that Nerve removed, losing it may give you more.

Gysberts for caddy, even if caddy is highly overrated would be a ridiculous steal in our favor

Caddy is massively overrated and has produced naught in two years, but yeah it would be a steal because at least some people seem to think Caddy has some value (who knows why). Could be used in a 3 way trade if that were to happen, but it probably won't.

Cook and Gysberts were both surprise picks at where they were taken.

Head scratchers.

Very poor drafting, but whats done it done.

And based on the standard of our drafting the club may be done pretty soon

Maybe a win win with both of them highly overrated.

Moloney, Petterd, & Morton were all of the Daniher regime with CCameron..

Actually Morton was our very first player drafted in the Bailey era.

9 other clubs were into him.

It just didn't pan out, which is why drafting isn't an exact science.

Get a grip.

Get a grip.

The drafting over the last 5 yrs has been a disaster & will set back the club 5yrs!

Understand that not all picks work out but too many misses makes it comical & talk of Gysberts going also a pick 12!

Morton pick 4- a dud

Brock pick 3or 5- gone

Cook pick 11- gone

Maric pick 20- gone

Dunn,bate teen picks-dudds

Sylvia pick 3 or 5 beeon at club 8yrs very hot & cold!

Moloney vice captain, 2011 BF - gone

Watts- school boy vs men can contest!

We a train wreck!

I feel for Neeld & co.... another rebuild WTF!!!!!

Morton was one of the last players drafted by Cameron.

Daniher was gone by the draft. Bailey was at the helm.

Bailey Era??? Here it is again, slanging Bailey.

Moloney, Petterd, & Morton were all of the Daniher regime with CCameron.

The poor culture was well and truly ingrained thru the Daniher era. We've been slow to recognise & try to rectify this.

Bailey may not have been the toughest coach, but maybe he couldn't be, with the Heavy Tail wagging him about. The Recruiting, under his reign wasn't by him, and to the best of my knowledge, he didn't appoint the recruiters. The club/Footy dept would have.

As I thought that was exactly what I was saying.

But obviously I missed the mark completely.

Morton will be traded.

Other list changes will include Bate, Petterd and Bennell, to join Moloney, Green, Cook and Jurrah. That makes 8.

Nicholson will be elevated. And maybe a surprise from the Rookie list will be let go.

Posted

I dont want to lose Gysberts!!!! Has a lot of potential and has had a bad yr with injury. Surely he warrants at least 1 more yr Neeldy......

As I understand he's lazy. Simple as that ..... How many AFL listed players would refuse to do a time trial in the pre season.

Very talented kid but not willing to hard.

Daniher was gone by the draft. Bailey was at the helm.

But the choice of Mortons was Cameron's not Bailey.

Morton will be traded.

Tell him he is dreaming.

Who would trade for him and what would they offer beyond peanuts?

context is a wonderful thing Rhino

The originating comment made mention that Morton was a Bailey era pickup not Danihers This is so. Its irrelevent to this that CAC was there. The poster was differentiating between Coaches

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
