Top 5 in B&F this year

Just thought I'd put up my top 5 in the Bluey this year.

1. Nathan Jones - obvious choice

2. Jack Grimes - first full season was one of the limited highlights.

3. Mitch Clark - only played ten games, so this is very telling to the remainder of the list.

4. Jeremy Howe - genuine improver, knows what he needs to work on.

5. Tom McDonald - real improvement to become consistent player.

I don't really know who else I could put in.

Trengove will be where you've got McDonald. Despite the outrageously over the top criticism of him around these parts, he's had a good year and the FD are big fans of his. Other than that I agree, and I struggled to come up with any more names as well.

Jones will win for mine, but I don't know what order the other 4 will be in. As good as Clark was I'd be surprised if he was in the top 3 after missing such a large amount of the season.

 

Reckon Rivers who did a regular job as demanded by the coaching staff would have to be in there. Could easily out McDonald (most improved) or Clark.

Clark and Rivers would have been ahead enough from the first half of the year to still place well with little competition.

Say what you will about Joel MacDonald, but he and Jones have been our most consistent players this year.

The top 5 is debatable, but achievable.

Try finding a top 10 who deserve to be called top 10. The list of candidates grows thin very quickly.

Top 4 should be concrete for mine. Jones will easily win of course. Rivers hasn't missed a game this season and tried his heart out in forward and defence. Howe hasn't missed a game either and averaged 5-6 marks a game, is one of the top contested marks and kicked 19.25 (so at least he's had a lot of shots). Clark was one of the most dominant forwards, and although playing half a season he had a fantastic impact on the club and I'm sure if he didn't get injured he'd have around 60 goals. Grimes sneaks in because he's played 21 out of 22 and won quite a lot of the ball

 

Neeld seems to love McKenzie and he had a pretty good year so I wouldn't be surprised to see him up there.

Rivers actually played not too bad, and I suppose he had some interesting roles to fill but Tommy Mac managed in these his early days to actually blanket some much better credentialed players, hit way above the expected weight. Id favour him.

Im not sure how you rate Trenners in the top 5, sorry, very much a substandard year for him, for whatever reasons.

Not a great year for Trengove but he was consistent and it's a struggle to find more than five that were better IMO. And it's pretty sad.

3/ Wheats - if he was still at the club - those B#$tards who axed him

4/ Wheels - if he was still at the club - those B#$tards who axed him

5/ Brucey - if he was still at the club - those B#$tards who made him leave

Trengove will be no where near top 5, who are you blokes kidding?

He was the ultimate plodder all year.


you think sylvias second half of the season will be enough to get him in the top 5? i think it would.


Jones, Grimes, Rivers, Howe, Trengove

The ones worth a mention are (in number order) Jones, Trengove, Clarke, Sylvia, Grimes, Garland, McDonald, Rivers, Howe.

That's just me rattling off players that come to mind as having a decent season. Obviously it's voted on after each game, so consistency throughout the year is what really counts.

Remember it's relative to the performances of the players not included in the above list.

Not sure how the voting system works, but if it's a long list each game, eg 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1, then someone like Trengove or Jordy could do well, having played consistently "ok" compared to the rubbish served up by many others.

If it were brownllow style (which most club b&fs are not) then Clarke & Sylvia could do well with a few best one and that's it.

But whichever way you slice & dice it, I'll predict this top 5 finish:

1. Jones

2. Grimes

3. Howe

4. Trengove

5. Rivers/McDonald

6. Most improved Sam Blease.
