We need to start a sub-forum called Oliver Whines where we can lament our poor recruiting.

Or alternatively we try this radical new idea called getting the [censored] over it.

Good post Sambo

...and to make us all fell a little better. There was some DL posters who (not unreasonably) thought we it might be worth taking a punt on Gartlett. Roos's solid citizen rule ruled that possibility out though. The Hawks decided to take the punt. At this stage the punt hasn't worked out:

Wines trumps both viney and toumpas

Yawn. Viney has played 13 games of football; Toumpas 14. That's the bottom line. Judge them after 50 games, 100 games etc, not after injury-ravaged debut seasons

Posted

Viney will be a gun, Toump will at the very least be a very handy player for us. But both seem to have the unlucky run of injuries that befall our recruits so judge them when they are fit and when they are actually well and truly into their careers not at the beginning.

As for Wines, we made the call so get over it. It's not an exact science, sometimes you need a little thing called luck on your side.

Ive peppered this thread with sh!tty-liver comments - so I thought id clear something up, from a personal p.o.v..

Nothing against jimmy. Nothing. Give him time, he'll be ok.

He IS very soft at the moment - but - as he is developing, he's becoming more and more confident with his body - the hesitation is still there, but diminishing..

(like our very own j. watts - who is, obviously, just a couple seasons ahead and a bit more seasoned body-wise, but he was the same..)

Good luck to Jimmy for the year - hope he does us proud and he has my unconditional full support, as does every player.

This is about the bloody club -

As my mum says, and said the other nite while watching Ollie carve it up on tv:

'picking Ollie Wines was a no-brainer.. unfortunately, there were no brains at the club, at the time!'

Ollie was the best performed player for that season, he knew the vineys and we needed a READY MADE MIDFIELDER - inside or

out didn't matter.. he seems to do both anyway.

Thats my gripe - thats why im [censored].. regardless of how good he is now, or in the future - Wines was the player we SHOULD have picked..

Its another major f**k up, in a long list of f**k ups, that are uncanny at making us pay down the line..

I mean, a small part of my brain still wonders, seriously, if the Prenderghasts and neelds weren't sent from other club to keep us down! - thats how bad we got.

I hope this thread goes 100 pages, is around for years to come and were still talking about it - it will show how much the f**k ups have hurt and that were determined to keep it at the back of our minds, so its less likely to happen again.

Wines trumps both viney and toumpas

Yeah, true.. He has a bigger build.

But his under 18 form was far superior to both. It is no surprise that Wines is transitioning well.

The writing was on the wall in the champs, he was a beast back then - and is a beast now.

It is his tackling, aggression, ability to keep his feet and find the football - complete package.

As Carey said the other night, I think WInes is a special player, high praise from the King.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
