Biffin, Tom McD had five kicked on him. Strange that you have him as Melb's fourth best player!

6- Blease

5- Spencer

4- Jetta

3- Rivers

2- Jones

1- Mcdonald

6. Blease

5. Jones

4, Spencer

3, Jetta

2. Grimes

1, Rivers

6. Blease - Gave us something to pin our hopes on (glimpses if what he could be if/when he develops an engine).

5. Spencer - Best performance for MFC by a mile. Keep at it Jake.

4. Jones - Not at his best under a close tag, but still a class above most of his team mates.

3. Dunn - Generally showed good composure and used the ball well. Didn't do his prospects of a new contract any harm.

2. Grimes - would have rated higher if not for 'iffy' disposal.

1. Jetta - Played with hardness and courage (Neeld would have liked that!). Needs to win more ball, but can be cut a bit of slack given his injury ravaged season.

6. Spencer (He was outstanding today)

5. Blease (5 goals say no more)

4. Dunn (battled hard and got stuck into Goddard)

3. Grimes (should have kicked that goal)

2. Jones. (3 quarters but went missing in the 3rd)

1. Howe (just because he always gives a contest)

6 Blease - showing why he was drafted so highly

5 Pencil - has improved markedly with every game

4 Dunn - becoming very reliable as is

3 Joel Mac

2 Jones - never gives up

1 Tommy Mc - despite the brainfades, always takes the game on

6 - Blease. I had him a little further down until I looked at the stats for the game. 20 disposals, 8 marks, 3 tackles and 5 goals.

5 - Grimes. His disposal let him down a couple of times, but he worked hard all day and ed from the front.

4 - Spencer. Showed why he's still on our list today. Held his own in the ruck, got his hands on the ball, fought at ground level and his kicking is looking far better too.

3 - Jones. The usual. Need I say more?

2 - Dunn. He's playing like his career is on the line right now. Funny that. His run and aggression is coming in really handy these days.

1 - Jetta. Needs to find more of the ball, but his courage was inspirational and he put on some great tackling pressure.

6 - Grimes

5 - Blease

4 - Spencer

3 - Jones

2 - Jetta

1 - Dunn

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
