Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well I know we support the same club but if that photo's you I very much doubt we're on the same team.

Yeah we are RR. I spent some time in the "Castro" in SF. Purely a tourist you understand! But I learnt that you can really stir people up with such comments.

Anyway, back to the point, it is an out of date Shite article, leave it buried.

I guess my point is that we are basically talking shite about shite. What we as loyal, passionate, nut case supporters, really want is to be talking about how we are going to smash St. Kilda and how that will effect our standing in the finals! Maybe next year! Or, the year after that! You know what I mean.

I'm not sure how this thread took this path, but the first post was a good one yde and I assume you meant it to be a serious discussion.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight and several more rounds, I suspect that reporter may be more cautious in his assessment of Neeld and the list.

I believe Malthouse referred to the ability of a coach to gain the most from a list - not replace it completely - to achieve success. Personally, I wish we had a coach with that approach to the job.

Yes. There's no doubt that Neeld has had the toughest introduction to senior coaching possible (so far). And if it is true that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, then perhaps we'll have a lot to look forward to.

I can't remember which ex player/coach said it (Roos? Wallace?), but if we trade well, pick up some wise FAs and select the best draft youngsters, we could turn around quickly.

Perhaps we are only a half doz key players and 12 mths away from finals footy???

IMO we have a good coaching team, good facilities and no debt. Neeld will get the best out of the players, but it will take longer than one season.

Edit: spel.

Frankly, I didn't like the premise of that article - that Neeld had the Sword of Damocles above his head.

He didn't, as much as a violently loud and arrogant few have wished it to be true, the guy is exactly the personality this club needs.

I remember Bailey when he came and I gave him time but I distinctly remember prophesying this:

Bailey doesn't strike me as a hard taskmaster of the Malthouse mould.

As much as many Demons fans will hate this next statement, I will say it anyway: He reminds me a bit of ND.

Now, wait. Just have a listen to what he says: "working with the players", "we have to gain respect" etc

It's not exactly the fire and brimstone vitriol of somone who will accept nothing but total commitment, or else blah blah. You get what i'm saying. Malthouse.

Not saying he won't be a fine coach but what I am saying is that I hope he is that teacher we have been crying out for.

We had a good gameday coach in ND, not a popular theory i realise, but our run and carry and our forward line functioned extremely well at times.

What ND lacked was the ability to develop players. To help them get better. Not all his fault, but the fact that Green, Bruce, TJ, White, etc have not progressed over the years was a worry.

To sum up: Fire and Brimstone - Hopefully, not required

Teacher and Developer - Absolutely required

...the Fire and Brimstone has probably come to the MFC. And about time. And, as an aside, we didn't develop well under Bailey either. Good to see that has been placed as a high priority, but I have said enough about Misson and Craig over the past little while.

Oddly enough I 'got behind' Bailey quickly in late 08 as what the hell is the point of willing failure upon the club you support by constantly wishing for the removal of the coach?

I understand what you say rpfc, but I must disagree on the statement that Neeld is what this club needs. For the record, despite constant attempts to distort my position, I want a 'tough' coach but also one who understands how to be tough with modern day players - this is a difficult task and one which I believe is beyond Neeld based on what I have seen. It is certainly not easy being a coach these days.

I agree, i definitely think we can turn things around pretty quickly if we make good decisions in the draft and with the FA's. i'd like to think that we're not going to rely too much of FA's though because i would like to think that neeld and the other new coaches etc can get the most out of players that we already have in our list.

Sylvia for example, i know he has been a very inconsistent player over his whole career and has always annoyed the hell out of many supporters, but since he returned from his back injury this season he seems to have been relatively consistent (touchwood) and i'm hoping that it is due to the input from neeld and the other new coaches and its not just a flash in the pan. We do also have a number of younger players such as Cook, Fitzpatrick and there is also Gawn who is a BIG unknown (literally!) and he could develop into anything and the same goes for the others. Jones also seems to have thrived this season. The approach that neeld has will obviously not suit all players and i'd expect those guys to be moved on at seasons end to make room for newbies.

What i'm trying to say is FA's are definitely a help and we will need them along with the draft picks, but we have to keep in mind that there are some players in the background that haven't as of yet developed big bodies which hopefully they will and lets hope that enables them to take the next big step from VFL to AFL.

As fas as finals go, if we do recruit well i think next year we will push ourselves back up to where we were last year (8-10 wins) but we will be stronger internally than last season. the year after i'd like to think that finals will be definitely in our grasp!

Getting the most out of what we have got is the key, and the hard work for any coaching staff.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
