Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

............ Is Bail the worst kick in our team? Two chances at goal in the same spot and he sprays them both. I know he kicked one but he is just a shocking kick.............

To me those two misses said more about his awareness and decision making than his kicking. Should not have blazed away when there were other players open in a much better scoring position.

What do we say when we get 'jumped' in the 1st quarter and are down by 6 goals?

"It doesn't matter that we stayed with them for the rest of the game - it was over at qtr time!"

So how does that logic follow to say - "It doesn't matter what we did in the first qtr, they stayed with us for the rest of the game!"

It wasn't a great win but our team of NQRs and kids beat a team and that is fine by me.

Mate I think giving him the job of sitting on Ablett was foolish he is not that sort of player Ablett has beaten a lot better players than Mortion over the years.

He was hardly on the ground for a quarter so my comment is based on the past.

I agree with RobbieF I think we are trying to turn him into a player he will never be.

It is not IMO and never will be a Hard in and under player.

He is in my view a Half forward or wing man.

His strengths appear to me to be his ability to run all day.

His best games are when he has been able to run the lines.

He is a good kick and a good mark.

Used in that way he could contribute a lot.

However it would appear the FD do not consider him to in the first 25 picked.

Probably just as well he has a contract for 2013.

Not that it stops him from being traded.

I would give him the last year of his contract.

So that probably means he will be traded.

Just my humble opinion.

Thanks OD

I guess I am waiting to see if the club can develop him as they have with Watts.

As with comments about Howe Id hate to see him line up and star against us if traded.

I think those 2 examples do show us that there is an improved FD mentality for development

Not making it up, Stuie.

Sometimes, fans know more than Mark Stevens and his calvalcade of in-the-know expert peers...

Sooooo I just take your word for it that you know what the inner sanctum of the club think about a particular player?

Ridiculous.

Laughable? Laughable is it?

Well full marks for chutzpah, kid.

Let's see their last month:

they beat Richmond by 2 points (we couldn't get within nine goals);

they went down to Geelong by 11 points (we were happy we kept the loss to just two figures, in fact they were five goals better than us);

they lost to the Lions by 11 (that's five goals better than us);

then got thumped by Sydney (even then they were five goals closer than us - bit of a pattern there, don't you think?).

Two close losses, one win, and one big defeat to the premiership favourite in the same time we had four losses by an average of six goals.

Keep laughing Junior.

Well played Pitmaster. Nothoing like a sledge that is miles off. The Geelong game they could have so easily won and the Brisbane game they should have won (with the coach saying it was the first time they had lost a game they should have won). I just don't get the negativity about the win.

As i have said in a previous post, good first quarter and a half, with some of our best ball movement of the season. And the back half was as solid as it has been for some time (and missing Watts to boot).

Whilst they were not as good in the second half it was instructive that Neeld answered a question in his presser about whether he was disappointed in the second half with something along the lines of ....no as the indicators we use (pressure acts etc) to measure performance were where we want them to be.... Neeld is hardly one to gild the lilly and has been blunt all year in assessments of where we are at so i have no reason to doubt his sincerity (he certainly looked genuine).

But of course all the keyboard coaches and analysts know the drum a whole lot better - and will probably guffaw at modern speak like KPI and say something like 'the scoreboard is the only KPI I rate!'.

One thing i like about Neeld is his consistency. All year he has maintained it is not about the here and now or even the scoreboard, but about the right processes and structures (which when in place will ensure the scoreboard will take care of itself) and learning a game style that will win finals.

His comment about the second half is yet another example of his singular focus and his refusal to but into the sort of short term thinking that will never get the club out of the malaise it has been in since Northey left the club.

Nah, it's not ridiculous.

You can't come on here and make unsubstantiated claims then when challenged back it up by saying "but I said so".

Rumor mongering, baseless accusations, and having a crack at a guy who has worked hard when faced with the challenges he's had in the last 2 years, is as bad as jeering Morton.

Simply put up or shut up and stop being a sh!t stirrer.

I don't have a reputation as being a sh!t stirrer and no-one has a gun to your head telling you to take my informed word for it.

Nor am I saying anything too outlandish against the kid; we all read the training reports about Gysberts at the rear of the field.

I have heard a couple of things from people that are quite reliable on this - 'Gysberts can only get better in his next Pre Season.'

Is that better wording?

Much better. To be honest, not having a go at you, just think that Gys has a HEAP of talent and could become a superstar for us, but agreed he can only get better with uninterrupted preparation for next year.

He had an uniterrupted preparation last PS too. I am labouring the point but Jordan has a heap of talent but his desire to be what he promises to be will be illustrated this summer.

Was a bit meh.

Easy win, opposition were horrible.

Harley Bennell was great to watch.

Liked Howe and Tapscott's games.

Blease needs to ease off the caffeine, settle a bit, and use some brains.

Best thing was seeing the likes of Jamar, Jurrah, Watts and Clark walking around level 2, it was a reminder of the class we will be able to add back to the team next year.

Gold Coast are miles off.

...and how well was he walking? Unaided?? Surely not.

Gys and Blease will be the ones most worth watching over the preseason. Lets hope that they can gain the necessary fitness to allow them to unveil their full talents for full games over a full season.

I found the coaches votes to be quite different to what many on Demonland have suggested. A few surprises.

Melbourne v Gold Coast

9 Harley Bennell (GC)

6 Brad Green (Melb)

5 Jack Grimes (Melb)

3 Lynden Dunn (Melb)

3 Colin Sylvia (Melb)

2 Gary Ablett (GC)

1 Jeremy Howe (Melb)

1 Nathan Jones (Melb)

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
