Liam, the club and the AFL are really in totally uncharted waters on this one. So many "issues" never encountered before.

I don't think anyone can predict the outcome with any certainty, but I guess those of us wo are on the pessimistic side regarding Liam's long term future playing sublime footy for MFC have reason on our side...........and I sure as hell hope we are proven wrong.

The club can surely only be expected to carry him for so long.....sure support him as long as it takes but in a cut throat professional competition where every man counts it is difficult.

Hopefully the AFL will be supportive of the club if they do decide to carry him into 2013 then things go belly up.

Why on earth would they let him go interstate again after what happened last time.

The Age says that he told the club after he had arrived in Adelaide.

If true, that's walking out on the club.

What was in the article was not exactly the story I heard.

Figured it would be best to let the Club put it out as they saw best...

Sorry.

Don't be, simply referring to what transpired after your sigh.

Had you heard differently ?

I've heard a couple of different perspectives on what's going on, part of which was in the article. Liam's situation is complex and challenging.

He deserves the clubs continued support and compassion, and I wish him all the best.

This year just continues to plumb the depths...

Let's see what happens but get him on the Rookie List.

It's the prudent step.

Good luck Liam.

one of the other clubs with rookie picks before us would take him in a heartbeat

And for those who deigned it necessary to bash RudeBoy earlier in the thread,

From the Age article at http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/jurrah-gone-but-not-leaving-demons-20120816-24ap2.html

Asked if he thought Jurrah would play with Melbourne next year, Hearn Mackinnon replied, "I hope he does but right now I'm more concerned for his welfare and happiness".

So you two are fine with him going behind the clubs back and organising a private meeting with the Collingwood president, and a media appearance against the clubs wishes?

What he did to the club was disgraceful.

And as for being active since that interview, if you check the few posts he has made most of them are aggressively critical of the MFC administration. I think he wants Jurrah at Collingwood.

The irony of tin foil hats; meant to keep the aliens out but can't keep the nonsense in.

Yeah, but we might be able to through FA - delist him and then he *chooses* to be a rookie for the MFC. All delisted players immediately get FA to go where they want. I don't know whether you can choose to be a rookie.

This should be possible, but I have not seen any mention of it as Mark Stevens, Damian Barrett, et al. are too focussed on Important Tribunal Matters, the Awful Case of Melbourne's Tanking, and the Best Supercoach Hints.

Posted

Until this trial is over there will continue to be innuendo and confusion. He's out of contract so the smart thing right now is to put him on the Rookie list on a one year deal. If he's cleared, he can focus on footy and get back his spot.

If he ends up in the clink... actually I don't want to contemplate that.

And now out come all the comments about how he only really had one or two great games or plays... so, we are entering the denial stage even before he has left the building?

well thats not what I was saying and I think thats obvious

I just remember that particular game because an opposition supporter was excited to see him play and that pass sticks in my mind even more than the kicks over his head lying on the ground etc etc.

The only "one good..." in my post was Pia's bloke slotting the goal and I put that down to LJ's pass almost giving him no 'choice'!

He nearly beat St.Kilda on his own that day(this is not a tanking thread btw) and I expected he'd do it for years to come.

When was the last time you went with a mate who supported the other side who just wanted to watch a MFC player?

Robbie Flower days? Neita Schwartz and Lyon?

Fingers crossed, heavy heart.

Fingers crossed I guess.

Would love to see Liam, Clark and Cloke in our forward line next year.

Now I'm really depressed. If Clark doesnt come up you could well be batting zip zip zip 3 strikes and out!!!

ha ha Possibly the most exciting of the lot.

Short career but and they're all a long time gone, which was my point to Hardtack

Don't be sad, we've still got Colin Sylvia. AKA "The Full forward".

Has a court appearance in less than 3 weeks. Would probably have only played for Casey till seasons end. Has hardly seen his family. Goes to Adelaide to sort out some personal issues........ Gee lets all jump to the worst case scenario

Should we hold him under lock and key??

At best we should find a way to rookie him. At worst its goodbye. Its not a good situation

Well I wish the lad well and hope he can sought out his troubles. Hes between a rock and a harder place more often and some of his own construct.

I have no particular feeling that he'll front for us again, more the shame. It just seems one of those spiralling ever decreasing circle type messes doesnt it.

You never know I suppose but im not putting money on it. :(

God this year sucks !!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
