What point was On the Couch trying to make?

This is just getting worse with Paul Johnson, John Meesen, Nathan Brown (Rich) all being quoted. I wonder if they (media) will go to James McDonald who was Captain. Robbo has written an article in the Sun baying for our blood. This is not good.

Paul Johnson didn't really have too much to add I didn't think, I agree that whilst the look of Dees fans cheering when we lost the game against the Tigers wasnt' a good look, the simple fact was that we were leading at the siren. So Brown's input isn't much more telling than before.

Robbo isn't exactly baying for our blood,

if thats the article you are referring to, it sounds more like its talking about the AFL making a stance on this once and for all. He is critical that they (AFL) seem to pretend it still doesn't exist, and given that there are 5 teams that could be tarnished with a tanking brush, I would imagine that the amnesty is the most likely option they would go with unless they sweep it under the carpet again.

I thought Johnsons comments were fairly measured and a reflection of the time.

Same. Nice to see we've got some ex-players with at least half a brain.

We didn't throw matches. We didn't organise players to miss goals, give away free kicks or use the ball badly (they did that all on their own). Winning wasn't the top priority, but that's nothing new in football. It's no different to clubs that can't make the eight sending all their "not quite fit" players in for surgery early to get a head start on the pre-season.

I did like this bit of the article though:

Former Melbourne forward Russell Robertson last year claimed ''this whole tanking vibe has disgruntled a few players at the club''.

He did not want to comment yesterday because he is now a club employee and feared being sacked.

lol. Good one Robbo. I can just hear him saying, "I don't want to comment because I'm an employee of the club and I don't want to get sacked". Ok! Apparently just a "no comment" is not sufficient.

You can just imagine what he would say though "sorry, mate. I might get the arse!"

Paul Johnson is right, we didn't lose on purpose - we just experimented to the point of absurdity.

Oh, and Petterd nearly won that game with a fantastic goal out of the middle very late in that game. And Bate is a centreman if he is anything (a slow one) - he must love the fact that when he is the guts apparently that means the team is tanking. He should call up Jon Pierik for his own 'please explain'...

Yeah I laughed at that as well, nothing like a bit of journalistic license hey!

What about the hypocrite Roos who, as coach of the Swans tanked all the way through every NAB Cup series while he was coach and openly flaunted the spirit of the competition?

It was good enough for him to pick inferior sides and experiment with players for the long term good of his club, wasn't it?

Extremely good point. NAB Cup may not be the most important competition, but it is still a competition, and you can bet on it. With this then every team has tanked.

The Meese is weighing in on this?

Good heavens!

Surely the very fact that he got a game would have to be exhibit A if they ever launched a tanking charge!

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

The Demons head back to Melbourne after an embarrassing loss to the Dockers to take on the Magpies at the MCG on Kings Birthday. With a calf injury to Lachie Hunter and Jacob van Rooyen possibly returning from injury who comes in and who goes out?
