Demonland Player of the Year - Round 15

Featured Replies

6 Jones, who is far and away our best player, perhaps outside of Clark

5 Sylvia, who only needs a hypnotist to tell him he's playing Richmond every week

4 Blease, who is going to be an absolute jet

3 Nicholson, whose kicking can really let him down

2 Jordie McKenzie, who I hope is going to be okay after his big knock

1 Spencer, who uses his big body better than Jamar does around the ground.

6- Jones

5- Sylvia

4- Martin

Struggling now

3- Nicholson (but had 4 kicked on him)

2- McKenzie

1- Frawley (good duel with JR but really should not get votes).

Colin Sylvia has actually been very good since the bye, but don't expect a lot of posters on here to admit it.

He certainly has.

6- Jones

wow this is hard this week

5- Sylvia

4- Nicholson

3- Martin

2- Howe - if he could kick he would get a hell of a lot more votes

1- Garland

6. Jones

5. Sylvia

4. McKenzie

3. Martin

2. Spencer

1. Nicholson (his kicking was woeful today)

3 Howe

Seriously, how are people putting Martin in their votes? Is it a plot to somehow increase his trade value? We sucked every time he went into the ruck.... To be fair to him, we were awful all day....

Haven't seen the game, but the stats say he was one of our best.

Haven't seen the game, but the stats say he was one of our best.

Do smothered kicks count? As his kicks got smothered at least 4 times!

6 Jones

5 Nicho with an unusual 83% DE

4 Dunn

3 Watts even with 3 clangers still had 82%DE and made good decisions

2 Martin

1 Spencer

Sylvia's opponent had 10 more disposals than him; his DE was 52% - just not good enough with his talent!

6.........

5. Jones (The crude agricultural up-country hacks/kicks when he tries for distance are a real blot on his game. Stuff you only see in park footy. )

4. Trengove

3. Sylvia (The absurd attempted kick off the grounds are just stupid; 2 missed, 1 2 cost a goal.)

2. Nicholson

1. McKenzie

Ed: the tiges first goal came after a Sylvia kick off the ground

What happened to Magner? Injured? Presumably subbed out - 13 DT points.

6 jones

5 Sylvia

4frawley

3 watts

2 Nicholson

1 Howe

Please, watch the game before making comment. Stats are very very misleading.

6. Jones - heart of a lion. Runs & gets the hard ball

5. Sylvia - the class is apparent. Can be damaging. does not stagnate with the footy.

4. McKenzie - like Blundstone boots. Not flashy, but tough, reliable and gets the job done.

3. Dunn - liked his grit, good kicking (long and strong) and was unlucky in several "free kick" incidents.

2. Frawley... sure Riewoldy kicked 1.5 but goal was from a soft free kick and Frawley marked him all day

1. Nicholson ...loved his run, pace and competitive spirit. This kid can play. Maybe a role on the wing and not Half back next week.

What happened to Magner? Injured? Presumably subbed out - 13 DT points.

Subbed out after having less than 5 disposals in 2 and a half quarters and absolutely shanking a set shot for goal.

6- Jones: Not as good as he usually is, but far and away better than anybody else on the team.

5- (Now I'm struggling) Sylvia: Seems to be working harder than he did in the first half of the season.

4- Watts: I'm a huge Watts fan, but his disposal did let him down at times. That being said, he is the person who's hands you want it in when the ball is in our back half. I also loved seeing him go in really hard and thought he was harshly pinged for holding the ball.

3- Spencer: Much better than Martin was in the ruck. A promising performance against a likely AA Ruckman.

2- Howe: Can someone please teach him how to kick?

1- Nicholson: (See Howe)

4- Watts: I'm a huge Watts fan, but his disposal did let him down at times. That being said, he is the person who's hands you want it in when the ball is in our back half. I also loved seeing him go in really hard and thought he was harshly pinged for holding the ball.

He often played on Shane "Titch" (178cms) Edwards. He was outmarked 2-3 times by Edwards. Edwards setup a few more goals. Watts turned it over 3-4 times & often went with a 15 metre sideways pass. Dunn was much more effective in his getting the ball outside our defensive 50. Watts kickouts were "agonising". He did 4-5 good marks & competitive efforts today but a back sweeper on a small fwd. Please. Maybe a real test for the No.1 is getting it inside our fwd 50.

footnote: Compare to Deledio. Deledio is quick, dangerous and wins the footy to create and kick goals.

watts was clearly hampered by a leg injury today. was looking to get off for the last 5 minutes of the first half but couldn't because the ball was in our defence so much. he will make mistakes at times, because our players don't work hard enough to get into space, and he has to try and manufacture something. needs to tighten up at times, got led to the ball a bit today, but he definitely wasn't running like normal after half time.

"footnote: Compare to Deledio. Deledio is quick, dangerous and wins the footy to create and kick goals. "

Watts had a bad game. But to compare Deledio to Watts? Deledio is a 10 year player, lifetime member of the club, he's at his peak. Watts is just starting out, don't like the comparison.

6: Jones

5: Sylvia

4: Watts - sorry to you detractors but we (my friends and I- one of whome is a former MFC player) thought he was good.

3: Nicholson

2: Martin

1: Frawley

And a special mention to Spencer.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
