Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't confuse performance with leadership, his refusal to give off to Tyson early in the game and to square it late in the game were genuine examples of me-first football.

Yep, there were a few times he should have given off yesterday and I'm sure it will come up in the review. Trying to do a bit too much.

Grimes won't be demoted during the season, nor quietly urged to fall on his sword. Simply not the way Roos works, as mot will surly understand. If his best form doesn't come back he may well stand down. If that happens, I'd expect Dawes and Jones to be co-captains, flat-out committed leads of a flat-out committed team.

Spot on..

No better time for a bump. Paul Roos, you have done a HELL of a job.

Within a year of coming in, Roos has stripped Trengove and Grimes of the captaincy.

Our captaincy should've always been performanced based.

Thank you Paul Roos.

You seem to have the inside knowledge on what Roos does - what other secrets can you let us into.

"This has been a hard decision, which I have spent considerable time thinking about during the off-season. During this period, I have spoken to a number of people I trust and I appreciate the support of the Club in respecting this decision.”

Obviously the above statement above from Grimes is utter nonsense according to you ?

Classic case of using the wrong logic to come up with the right answer. Well done Ding.

I also would like a definition of "performance based".

I talked to a current Collingwood player ( ewww I know) and he said that Maxwell was outstanding as a captain. Best player ? Best performed ? Nowhere near it. He said that structure and leadership he provided on the ground and importantly off the ground was immeasurable.

MFC needed a performed based leader. We'd slipped into a culture of dependence and mediocrity, Nathan Jones was the only guy at the time who represented something else. Nathan Jones represented a guy who taken full responsibility, didn't blame others, just put his head down and played quality football - that is the type of leader MFC needed.

Look at all the guys that came through our club, Scully, Moloney, McLean, etc. All players who blamed others when things went wrong.

Nathan Jones blamed no-one, he led through is actions - and that is exactly what MFC needed to do at the time.

Nick Maxwell was a good leader for Collingwood, but their club circumstance was A LOT different to ours.

Collingwood has an even spread of leaders - and Maxwell got to do an apprenticeship under Buckley.

Nick Maxwell was surrounded by leaders. Maxwell served the purpose of getting those leaders to work together.

Neeld's co-captaincy experiment was an utter failure, even if the concept does work - appointing young kids and expecting them to lead a poorly run football club = a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, the only disappointing thing about this poll is that a lot of the 'yes' votes came years after it was started.

LOL. The only reason people are still voting on it is because you keep bumping your own thread.

Bask in the glory one last time cos I think we're done here.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
