Agree Mickey 'O'. He plays with the same persona at GWS that he did at our club. I've been watching him closely but I don't expect a couple spruiking 'the vibe' they apparently received to take note. He remains exactly the same [censored] he always was.

youd like to think 3 picks would net somethiing..and something bloody good. We know what were geting with Viney. That in itself is a rare win, theres no guessing here, hes a bone fide gun. He still needs work, he still will have to step up but we know he has that in him. No pencil in here, get the texta out. . He will command a high pick. other teams will make sure of that. Two picks to get ONE other decent player. Youd think that was a lockin but we know better.

I think this is very much more about the selction lads knowing what they are after...really know and pickiing accordingly upon some really thorough homework.

How is that Wyl, free agency is no different to us then any other club barring Pies, Bombers, Hawks and interstate clubs,most of the decent kids we have, have only been at the club 3-5 years so they are not free agents for another 3-5 years and they are not unrestricted for another 5-7 so if we haven't started winning by that stage it will mean no other club would touch them

Lets not lose sight of the draft being a lottery at times, yes you need recruiters to do their homework but there are always Fyfe's, Selwoods, Zharakis', Bartels who for one reason or another fall into your lap beause they are not rated as high as others.

Or you can finish low down in a year when there are freaks in the draft, 2003 we finish down low in a draft that very few have really turned the footy world upside down. Another year and those picks 3 & 5 could have been Roughead & Buddy or Thomas & Pendlebury

Chris JUDD fell into Meth Coasts lap in 2001 at Pick 3 and was the final piece in the puzzle with Kerr, Cousins & Gardiner who went down and was replaced by Cox.

For these reasons I am dead against the suggestion from another thread in giving up pick 3 & 4 to get pick 1, I think 2 tips in the Top 5 will give you long term depth and a better chance of improving your list overall

The years 2008-11 were nowhere near as good as they should have been.

Unless we are getting Sidebottom of course we keep 3 and 4.

However, if GWS agree to get us in the 17 year old mini draft for Pick 3 - and an agreement that pushes Viney to the second round of course - than I would do that in a heart beat as it would mean we would mean effectively swapping Pick 23ish for the highest rated 17 year old in the land.

Because without a deal - Viney will be 3.

No one in their right mind would trade pick 1 for pick 4 and 13.

Past pick 4s have included Morton, Fiora, Ray. Past pick 13s have included Matthew Bate, Tom Lynch (x-Stkilda), Mitch Brown (geelong nothing player).

Pick 1 is a lock great player (or should be at least).

Assuming we have to unfortunately use pick 3 on Viney we have an entire field to choose from after the first two picks when it comes to pick 4. My point being ? When you list all of the pick 4's that you don't rate you're dismissing all of the other players that were available to those clubs at the time. Don't just list the pick 4's, list all of the players that went at 5/6/7/8/9/10/11/ and 12, because they were in play when that club got to its pick 4.
