It has come to my attention that our forward line as we knew it is dissolving.

Today i saw Mark Neeld saying that he isn't worried for Mitch Clark to have a go in the ruck and that he plans on playing Jack Watts down back

Also Howe seems to be getting put behind the ball quite often and is unable to nail many goals when he does get a shot.

We have no decent small forward at the moment and Sylvia is not performing.

With all that going on what is currently left of our forward line? What are your thoughts on all this

I know where you're coming from - at one stage its potency was quite impressive.

Based on rotations, Jurrah, Jetta, Green, Pettard, Dunn, Sylvia, Martin and even Jamar.

Add Howe and Bail and there some scores kicked.

But, that was in the bruise-free footy days of Bailey.

I beleive the forward line currently can be seen to be in the one of the three marks of existence touted by Buddha that is called

Anicca (Sanskrit anitya) "inconstancy" or "impermanence". This refers to the fact that all conditioned things (sankhara) are in a constant state of flux. In reality there is no thing that ultimately ceases to exist; only the appearance of a thing ceases as it changes from one form to another. Imagine a leaf that falls to the ground and decomposes. You could have Lockett, Coventry, Dunstall, Lloyd, Norm Smith and Carey up there but if the ball doesn't get out of the middle and out of defence then they wouldn't be able to conjure up a goal.

Not a fan of playing Clark in the ruck. With Sellar coming in for Frawley I don't think we'll have to do that.

One thing I want Neeld to maintain doing is playing players in positions he wants them to be in in the long run. So that means Clark plays FF, Watts plays HB/wing (if that's what Neeld wants), Garland stays in defence, Bail does his HFF/run with role, etc. I don't like moving players around as stop-gap solutions.

We don't need Clark to ruck. In the long run we have Gawn, and I still have faith in Martin. Clark is dominating at FF; if he was in any other team that's not called Gold Coast/GWS, he could be leading the Coleman.

Do we actually have a forward line? How come other than Clark most of our forwards seem to finally arrive when the ball is already exiting out courtesy of opposition defenders?

Was watching Jack Riewoldt tonight, i know its a long shot but whats stopping Cook from reaching those limits. They are similar body shape arnt they?

And god damn we need a small forward, every game i watch theres 2 small forwards ripping it up. Tonight Nahas and Saad tore the defenders to shreds.

Wonna gone, Davey going. No smalls, no speed around our forward set up, no crumbers, no one stays down, no pressure defending in our forward line, no hope.

He is far from 12 mate, Cook is becoming a big boy, you will see, he will end up a great forward.

I've been saying it since 2007.

I reckon Watts will play in defense for the rest of this year to learn his agression - 'cause the best place to learn that is defending your teams lead by stopping goals. Then bulk him up over next preseason and have him and Mitch Clark as two tower forwards with Jurrah and Garland as roaming forwards with the ability to go in the air or on the ground... with the two Jacks, Jones and Howe et al in the middle and the defense holding up we are starting to look like the team that is tough to play.

This year out forward line has been crazily bad, apologies Mitch Clark 29 goals 11 games

Our 4 next best goal scorers are Jones - MID, Howe -MID/FOR, Blease MID, Sylvia MID/FOR

OK so our next 4 highest goal scorers are Nathan Jones our best mid this year, stoked your kicking goals mate but we should have 5 other genuine forwards who are kicking as many or more goals than you......

Howe, great forward last year, less so this year, and he floats right up the ground on the wings ect, and he is our only other genuine forward contributor this season.....i would have been hoping for a 30 goal year from Howey

Blease, not so bad, has been playing in the mids, can rest foward and be dangerous, and only played half the year, but once again not one of our genuine forwards

Sylvia, known much as a HHF type, has been playing alot in the midfield this year, playing inside lately ect, another contender who isnt a genuine forward.

Ok so what happened i used to think we had to many forwards especially medium forwards, Howe, Green, Dunn, Petterd, Bate, Jurrah.......Howe the youngest and is the only one who has contributed.........

Imagine if we didnt recruit Mitch Clark.....also Watts i am a huge fan i love him playing down back atm, but really we are now relyingon Cook, who i really like as a player to come on and be that second tall target, or play big for Cloke. About Cloke, if anything the last month or so should have shown us that anything can happen and that we cannot work without a atleast one big forward in our side.

We also lack any type of small forward since wonna left, we have Lawrence but he has never and never looks like playing, when it seems simpleto find small types in amateur leagues, Siposs, Puopolo, Sadd, Milera, Callinan......

Ideally we would line up like this or similar

The ??? can be Watts or Cook hopefully but really i dont know who i want to fill in this forward line for our current side, Jurrah may go to jail and Davey is on his last legs imo literally? wtf did out forward line go?

What are everyones thoughts? we have no actual forwards options bare part timers when Clark goes down? and we have about 7 medium forwards with 50-150 games experience each......

Mark Neeld has done a lot of good things this year, but playing our better forwards away from the forward line has not been one of them.

Watts has done some nice things in defence, but he is wasted in a back pocket. We are setting back his develeopment as a forward a year for every month he spends away from the forward line. Dunn is woeful in defence, but at least looks remotely like AFL standard in the forward line. Howe doesn't consistently get enough of the footy in the middle and is useless as stoppages. At least he looks dangerous every time he gets the ball around the goal. Bate is another who is wasted when he gets more than seventy metres from goal.

All we need is someone to provide a target initally and then a contest when the ball actually arrives. Sellar could be that player if he loses some weight so he can make enough contests. I also suspect Miller would be playing a part in our forward line if he was still around.
