Jared Rivers kills off rumours about rift between players and Neeld:

I now await the multitude of posts claiming that Jared is simply toeing the company line.

I.m with Jarred. I believe Neeld, Mission, Graig etc know exactly what they are doing. And as hard as it is to watch, the sudden improvement we are going to see soon will shock the lot of you. Well some of you.

I tend to agree and look forward to the shock -- at least one before the break would raise morale immensely.

I,m going to go on record here and predict that we end up with 7 to 9 wins this year. Hard to believe at the moment but write this down and come back and mock me later. No really it's just around the corner.

Jared has been playing well, he's probably our best performing 'senior' player. I'd back his word, but it would be interesting to see if sylvia or Beamer would have said the same thing

I'm starting to get a bit worried about Trenners. Going by what Rivers is saying, his run at the moment isn't down to carrying any sort of injury but just really poor form and diminishing confidence.

It's such a dramatic turnaround from last season. It's hard not to put it down to the captaincy appointment.

Its a good sign that Jack is a bit down about his on-field performance lately.

Least he isnt havin a joke and waving to cameras

Thats OK, it's a steep learning curve for the boy.

He's the type you'd put in a leadership role in the army, on the front line. Made of good stuff.

He'll bounce back bigger & stronger...

Finally we see & hear some/one of our 25+ yr group showing some leadership.

Jared's right, & I liked it the other day when he said, 'he saw his role as to teach & support the young ones coming through'.

This IS what we want to hear.

He's injured, PMan.

Even missed some of the NAB Cup with it.

It would be much more difficult to play injured than to play with a leadership position.

I will say that doing both is tougher...

But you can't decide the captaincy on who is likely to be injury free...

I dont get why everyone keeps saying his injured when nobody has confirmed anything except random sources who are never named and peoples pronsumptions based on how he runs.

If he was injured the club would say he is, they have no reason not to coz i am pretty sure other clubs would not get any major advantage by knowing he is injured. Its not like any1 can stick an elbow into a sore groin or ankle, and im sure opposition club doctors would be able to tell if he was injured or not anyway.

I think you would be stunned how many players are 'carrying' somehting.

We didn't know that Batram had a bad knee until it was revealed a couple of weeks ago.

We didn't know Frawley was struggling with a foot injury until he was spotted in a moon boot a few days ago.

The fact he missed some unimportant practice matches tells you more than Misson will ever say - he is carrying something, but it won't keep him from games that matter for the time being.

Whether he is toeing the company line or not doesn't matter.

Whether he privately can't stand the coach or not doesn't matter.

What matters is that he's buying in to the coach's way of doing things.

The only way is forward.

Go Demons!

The difference is that when one is carrying something and isn't performing then they mention there injury.

Frawley and Bartram are having decent years (In MFCs eyes) and wern't having articles written about there performance and it being blamed on other issues.

I got past training again this morning and Trenners was not part of the main session. Just some kicking with Bail and Watts - Watts was straight off the ground, followed by a long chat with Craig.

He is definitely injured and with my novice medical opinion I would bet on OP which is why he is continuing to play. Check his run a minute or so before 3/4 time on Sunday when Jones kicked him the footy into space and he just couldn't run. Compare this to his previous seasons and it is obvious he is not running freely. It's like he can't raise his knee above a certain point to get the acceleration. Having said that I would rest him and manage him through the year to get him right for the pre-season and 2013.

Maybe his 'couldnt run' issue is a result of the rumour they are running 30% more during games.

If any of you guys have run constantly over a long period of time with repeat sprints you would notice your legs turn to jelly.

Maybe his body just isn't use to the intencity of playing in the mid-field with a new game plan which requires much more running then usual.

I think most people would find it hard to burst off the spot and spring for marks and kick 50m when your legs are jelly

The problem with this strategy is the Corner is a long way ahead at present I think the corner is in hongkong.

I agree rpfc if you did that Grimes would never be the captain

Sorry but something just isn't adding up. If everything is as rosy as all the players say then why are we 0-9? Open your eyes people. There are clear issues with certain players and the coach!!!! Team's don't perform this badly without some existing issues. I know our list is poor to say the least but there seems to be other factors at play here. Do you really think that Rivers or any other player is going to come out in the media and admit there are issues??????? If the entire playing group is 100% behind the coach then I'll eat my own hat!!! Read in between the lines..... Don't be so gullible to believe what players and or officials say to the media.

On Trengove - if he is injured then DON'T play him. He couldn't even catch Brock McLean on Sunday so he would want to be injured or he is in real strife!

Anyone know the most up-to-date approach with OP. It seems to be that they try to manage them through it, rather than rest - would it just come back.

Interested to know.

Sorry but some of you people come across as extremely naive - if everything is as rosy as all the players say things are then why are we 0-9? Open your eyes people. The natural extension to this simma02 is if everyone is with the coach we have an even worse playing list than I thought.

If we are all happy then the results are even worse.

Imagine the results if there was no harmony!

Its coz MFC is not as fit as Carlton. Brocks spent a few years under Carltons regime and can sprint burst after 100 minutes of gametime. Jack probably cant due to jelly legs.

I'm not happy Trengove is injured, but I do enjoy the delicious irony for all those fools who said Grimes shouldn't be captain ahead of Trengove, because Grimes was likely to be held back by injury.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
